Why I hate dealing with garages :( - A bit of a rant

Sorry to hear about shabby treatment.

I assume that you have decided not to pursue the purchase, and want your deposit refunded instead?

If so, paying by credit card was a good move (assuming it was over £100) as you can sue them as well - probably why you paid this way? The garage might be more concerned about losing its merchant account, and also there is the local Trading Standards to contact.

You can use the on-line form to sue via the small claims procedure - often just sending them the completed (but unsubmitted) form with a covering letter stating they have (say) 14 days to refund your money or you will submit the Claim is sufficient.

Have you spoken to yur local CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau)?

Awesome post Clarkey, A+.

It seems anything he can say to be negative or argumentetive makes a worthy post these days. Maybe he's got PMT or something ;)

Best of luck in getting your deposit back. The fact you paid it on a credit card could stand you very well here.

In your position the only satisfactory resolution would be to get your deposit back and find another car. Even if they offered to do the work I wouldn't touch that garage with a barge pole

Sound like a bunch of jokers to me. Seek further advice as to where you stand, trading standards wouldn't be amiss either.

I had something similar when I purchased my Accord, they agreed to do some work but when I went to collect it they hadn't done some of the work stating there was no more left in the deal to do the work.

I just said the deals off and asked for my deposit, after a few minutes of internal discussions they then agreed to get the work done and I even got a full years of road fund instead of the agreed 6 months but couldn't collect the car till the next week.
