I assume that you have decided not to pursue the purchase, and want your deposit refunded instead?
If so, paying by credit card was a good move (assuming it was over £100) as you can sue them as well - probably why you paid this way? The garage might be more concerned about losing its merchant account, and also there is the local Trading Standards to contact.
You can use the on-line form to sue via the small claims procedure - often just sending them the completed (but unsubmitted) form with a covering letter stating they have (say) 14 days to refund your money or you will submit the Claim is sufficient.
Have you spoken to yur local CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau)?
