Why Is China Building These Gigantic Structures In the Middle of the Desert?

It may just be me but not a single one of those pictures looks real.

The last one on the page actually looks like a Command and Conquer map.
 
Someone mentions the lines one matches the roads in Washington DC?

Some of the lines link up, but surely it isn't the same scale, plus the roads don't seem to be matching from when you actually look at the real map of it. Some theory I guess. :p
 
China is taking over!
it would be a conspiracy theory if it weren't already a certainty that even in the best of times our main nuclear rivals will have their nukes trained on US targets at all times. i'm sure we've got nukes pointed at targets in china as well. in fact, someone's probably sitting in a missile silo somewhere wearing a snuggy waiting for the launch codes should they ever come.

Well, if you're one of the richest nations on earth you can do wierd stuff like this just to freak the western world out. It worked.

Like that guy in Dubai that made his name or something from canals so it's visible on Google earth, Why? Because they can.

Looks odd, the colours have gone funny on the map tiles but when you zoom in between the facility there and the lake, there are weird shapes all over the ground.

Looks like they've built some rather massive canals there, with some epic water tanks perhaps, maybe an effort to try and make some areas of desert habitable? Wouldn't be too far fetched given China's massive population problems.
