Why is choosing a gfx card such a minefield :)

Hi guys been out the game a very long time and used laptops and xbox

Situations changed and laptop bust and needs replacing so ive decided to go with a desktop again with a pretty tight budget .

am5 mobo
ryzen 7600
deepcool ak620 cooler
32 gb ddr 5 6000 cas latency 30 ram
be quiet pure power m 750w psu
2 tb nvme

Now i have £300 ish left for a gfx card and simply just dont know lol. Done a lot of reading and then get put off by things such as ooooo 8gb vram no good now, that arc is good but struggles with older games. the amd is good if you dont want ray tracing.

To make it clear for when you reply i have a 22 inch 1080p 100hz monitor which i intend to keep. I will mostly be playing single player games ( xbox for multiplayer ) and i would like to replay the gears and metro series as well as new titles and gamepass games.

I would like a card that will do high settings and be good for the next 2-3 years with settings being lowered in time. I must admit im really tempted to go for the asrock intel arc b580 , After looking around on other threads and forums though cards such as the rtx 4060 ( even 8gb version) , the radeon 7700xt and even a rtx 3070 have been suggested instead.

Thanks

The 7700XT would be fine or a 3070 or higher.

I'm still on a 1080p display and my 6700XT is fine for even star field on high. Keep an eye in MEmbers market and read up on the B grade items post in this forum. I have had cracking deals from the MM.

Or wait a few weeks, months for the new AMD 9060 to come out.

There's a rare(ish) RX 6700 10GB for sale at the moment, 250ish. I'd add that to the mix alongside the 6750 XT, but admittedly the newer 7700 XT is nice if you can find one for that kind of price. The Arc is a good card too, if you're aware of the quirks.

My recommendation would be to source a 7500f from china
Mobo to get is the asrock b650m HDV/m.2
Get a cheaper cooler (something like the thermalright assassin king 120se - this would be more than sufficient for the 7500f/7600) you don't need a peerless assassin or the ak620

With the above savings you can add an extra £100 or so to the GPU budget with negligible CPU performance loss, giving you a much better CPU/GPU balance

It isn't, it is simple, just follow this and never worry again.

System is already built

I am surprised no-one has mentioned Intel Arc B580? you have a modern cpu so you shouldn't have any issues with resizeable bar or the slight cpu overhead it seems like a good deal? sadly it's upscaling isn't as supported in older games but it's getting better and it can still use FSR

EDIT: I assume this is if you want to buy new naturally buying used could be a good shout

Have to admit b580 was top of my list to start lol

What i wonder about is the longevity of the b580 in say two years to that of a 7700xt.

The chap who said see what the new amd releases in march have to offer is also valid.

If we're talking new then the 7600 XT is a winner. Has enough vram to allow you to enjoy it but also enough raster performance that it's on par with the alternatives. RT is not a consideration at this budget. Not having DLSS is unfortunate but still less of a trade-off than what 8 GB vram will require. B580 has way too many drawbacks and Intel is not looking like it has what it takes to fix them, just like they didn't for Alchemist. New cards in this budget are many months away. Not sure what the used market is like but perhaps that could open up 2080 Ti / 3080 for you, which would be preferrable.

I can definitely understand your pain, as I find choosing a birthday card a minefield.

Don't do it, don't buy because Jenses said it's safe to upgrade.
lol no choice i cant manage to long on just the 7600 inbuilt very basic gfx :) Real would like the b580 but people say if you can put up with the issues. Bar the older gen cpu issue i cant seem to find what these other issues are.

The 7700xt i like the look of , also is 8gb of ram for a 4060 that bad if only playing at 1080p ?

From what I'm aware:
- Rebar is required for them to function decently.
- High driver overhead.
- Old games may not work correctly, or have poor performance (not sure if Battlemage has addressed that).
- Very high idle/desktop power consumption unless you fiddle in the BIOS/Windows power plan.

Yes.

Yes.
- yes
- I wouldn't say high just "higher driver overhead" it's less of an issue on a recent 7600
- it's better on battle mage but I know there are some games which have oddities

8gb isn't an issue until it is then you really know about it I expect games will start needing more than 8GB

7600XT is never the answer, regardless of the question :)
It's £60 more than the 8GB 7600, and hasn't got any additional horsepower, so the extra VRAM will be of no use for games/resolutions that actually need more than 8GB.

That (RX6700LE) looks like a good choice.
