Why is GFWL such UTTER garbage?

Depends if you have it added to your online or offline profile, online profile you just need the saved game folder (Documents\My Games\Dirt2 on win7), offline profile you need that plus the Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\GFWL and XLive folders.

Well the whole machine is backed up nightly anyway so I'll have it all backed up, just wanted to know where it was incase I need to restore it from said backup.

As for on/offline profiles, I haven't a clue tbh as I've never really been "into" GFWL, it just sort of installed along with Dirt2. What's the difference and how do I tell?

Another one here who lost GTA4 saves because of GFWL and Windows 7 re-install. Not planning to hack my GTA just to get the saves to load so I guess I have to play through it again. I wonder how many other saves I lost; GTA4 was the first one I noticed.

From what I can gather, I have an online profile in which my GFWL-compatible titles such as Dirt2 are storing save-game info.

Two questions:

1. Can I transfer this savegame info into an offline profile as I don't like being dependent on an online service to store it.

2. If I use an offline profile to store savegame data for games such as Dirt2, does this mean I'll not be able to play them online?

I hate it when games have both steam and GFWL such as dirt2 dow2 ect ... really annoying and just increasing the chances of things going wrong

1. you don't need to be online to use your online profile. Your save games are stored locally, and online. If you have no connection, you will be able to play fine, and when you do have connection, it will sync up with the online copy.

2. No. Offline profiles in Dirt 2 can not be used online.

I have nothing against GFWL except 2 things:

1: The pain in the *** of updates with it, it can never successfully connect for me even with opened ports. I always have to grab gfwl updates and game updates manually.
2: No proper ''pc'' chat function. Either voice chat or a very slow message system.

I like the achievements, the mixing with pc/xbox acounts, and the ease of play if you want to play with mates.
