Why is Google Maps so unreliable these days?

Since the update it has been slow and annoying. I much preferred the old version. The old version was faster, had the split screen street view which was handy and it showed better results and was able to go between results without losing the search results. These are big loss of features, i do wonder sometimes if they realize this.
