Why is it always the C:\ drive, not the A:\ drive?

I'm just curious why it's always the C:\ drive as standard on windows, I mean surely logic would dictate that the first drive would be at the start of the alphabet A:\?

A CD what? :p

This was back in the days when floppy disks were actually, well floppy!

And a 360kB floppy took an entire 5.25" bay. Hard (winchester) disks were up to 14" (350mm) and had their own cabinet.

Kids these days! Even I remember spending a good chunk of my early pc days playing with floppy disks and I'm only 24

I've drank a lot of whisky since the floppy days, I don't remember it being under A:\ but there you go. Cheers for the answer :D

Our first pc had a CD Rom drive and a floppy, but my parents were too tight to buy games or software so it was internet games for me. Internet for 20 minutes a day because it was pay per minute then too :p
