why is it removable?

i have just done a reinstall but i have this problem that my hard drive shows in toolbar as removable why is thi sand can i stop it being removeable

Is it a SATA drive?
If so then it is perfectly normal, you can hot plug a SATA drive without turning off your system, but this is not possible with a drive that holds the OS

yeah its a sata drive is there any way of removing it from the toolbar?

In the "Safely remove hardware" thing? Dont worry about it, after a few reboots it'll go away. Its only because windows recently installed drivers for it

I have had that icon for over a year now, it does not go away.

These are the things I know:
- Hide the icon
- Use a IDE drive
- Turn off the computer
- Forget about the icon and just leave it
- Connect a cardreader so you have a reason for the icon to be there

Right click Start button

Properties

Taskbar tab

at the bottom, hide inactive icons.

Same here, its never really bothered me but I did wonder why it was there. Nice to know its not just me!

Luckily I've never disconected it by accident as it has my OS on it. I just have to fight the urge to see what happens if I did. A classic case of big red "do not press" button syndrome!

Tried to stop my RAID array with the icon, does not work.
