Why is my PC crawling to a halt?

Me again guys...

Like a lot of people I went out and bought COD4 yesterday. When it came to install it it was sooooo slow and eventually took 70 minutes to complete the installation. Once installed though the game played fine and the PC chugged along quite happily.

That was until tonight. I'd been out all day so I jumped online at about 9pm for a few rounds but every so often the white Windows arrow would appear in the game and then a couple of seconds later I was back in windows only to be presented with some kind of "Hard Disk Warning".. I couldn't tell you exactly what it said as in the process of using the left mouse button, as you do a lot in FPS games, I'd be shooting someone one second and then back in Windows and canceling the warning before I got a chance to read it.

I've come out of game and checked event viewer to find this..

And this..

The HD is only about 3 months old and when I started this thread one of the first things I did was to run CHKDSK which came back fine.

Now I could be completely wrong but I guess it's not outside the realms of possibility that the fact COD4 took so long to install and the fact every time the HD is in continued use the rest of the system crawls to a halt aren't a coincidence. Are there any other programs I can run to check the disk or should I take Windows word for it and look for a replacement already?

Classic hard drive failure. That disk is about to die; if you have anything important on it that you don't have another copy of, back it up now.
