Why is nobody making an Android TV box with freeview pvr?

... Thanks, you are right, I had thought it was USB plugged into the shield.

Presumably the other supported Hauppage USB device £50 would not give easy/any remote access to live streams for other devices speaking to shield as plex clients ?
with this could record a stream directly onto shields internal sd card, but ~8Mb/s is not a big load on wifi to write from HDHomerun to NAS.

For HD will you store/stream the original h264 stream ?
and for SD ? you could store the original Mpeg2, or use the H'runs (apparently) internal h264 transcoder.

I nearly ordered the Win TV Dual HD but I found very little info online as to how it performs (most reviews on youtube etc seem to be focused on the homerun) but recent Amazon reviews look good and it seems to have dropped in price.
If you have a Plex pass subscription it will give you live tv streaming through your Plex server on compatible clients (they've just added Fire TV support) but Plex aren't doing the traditional EPG and instead basing it all on types of content (Movies, News etc) and recommended viewing based on your existing library. It's pretty good for recordings (once you turn all the rubbish channels off) but not great for simple live TV viewing.

This guy does a review based on UK tv which shows some detail (note live tv support has been expanded since)

At the minute I'm using the HD Homerun app for live tv and Plex for recording but once Plex has a few issues sorted I may do it all through Plex or I might try a few other solutions and see what works for me. Next thing I want to try is MCEBuddy and Comskip which can automatically cut out the adverts in recordings and then re-encode to more compatible file formats (HD recording is currently about 2.5GB per hour so not too bad).

From my limited experience so far I can't recommend it as family friendly replacement for say Sky or Youview but I can see a lot of potential once some of the bugs have been sorted.

well after three years of asking....Humax Aura has just launched

mmmmmm....wonder if you could extract all the APKs off it and run it from the new chromecast with a usb tuner

will be interesting if they have bettered the quality of their (mediocre) freesat box,
I'm still looking for a potential humax freeview t2 (linux) replacement with multiple tuners,
the humax guarantee is worth having, they had replaced the failing remote

I have the latest 4k Freesat recorder (made by Arris rather than Humax) and it's merely ok. The hardware itself is pretty good, but there are a few minor niggles and issues as the software feels very much beta quality atm. Certainly doesn't feel worth the £229 it cost

No support for Netflix on the box unfortunately-seen a few videos on the Tube confirming this.
