Just been looking at socket 939 stuff and was like what the hell why is it so exspensive (even second hand)
ultimately come upgrade time in march i was thinking of giving this to the kids but thought now i'll sell it instead lol
Just out of curiosity how much u think i should ask for this old system
athlon 64x2 3800+
msi k8ngm2 fid
ati sapphie 2600xt
2gb pc 3200 ram

It's expensive because no one makes them anymore, but they are still in quite common use. People will pay a premium to keep their system running, and not have to spend hundreds building a new pc. Someone with a S939 cpu will buy a 939 board, or if someones cpu is dead, they can get another and get their system up and running again.

It's common for this to happen. Afraid I don't know what they're worth though, just giving an explanation for the increased price

Unfortunately that's the laws of supply and demand coming into effect. As said previously there is an ever diminishing number of components and so, in the words of yazz, the only way is up (for the price)

Unfortunate? I wouldn't say so, he is gonna make some good money when he sells that kit on a popular auction site. Maybe even enough to buy a brand new Athlon 2 setup - wouldn't that be awesome ? :)

I'm certain the kids will be pleased :D

i can see it now sorry kids dad couldn't give u the computer instead he brought something for himself LOL

you think i should sell the cpu and mobo seperately?

Lol, that would be awful. I of course meant sell the old kit and give the shiny new athlon 2 to the cherubs.

I do indeed. I can see both individually going for more than a Athlon II 245 costs new.

Also, that RAM will command a nice price too.

still need a new mobo and ram again tho might just sell it all and put it towards the i7 920 DO.

I have something special instore for the kids my old old old 500mhz celeron with 512 of ram and a nvidia 32mb graphics card that barely displys the OS lol

Sorry, I mean the s939 CPU will sell for the same as an Athlon II and the motherboard will go for the same as an AM3 board, the RAM also will seel for almost the same as 2GB DDR3 - so you could conceivably do a straight swap.

People can buy a e3200 and overclock it too 4.0 to 4.4ghz and have a fast processer.

A cheap motherboard,

2 or 4gb of ram

4850 at least or keep graphics card,

A 400w value corsair power supply which is very good.

500gb + hdd

Cheap case

cd/dvd drive

At it will be about £200-250 and a bit over.

I still run socket 939, and I'd REALLY like to upgrade (as an overclocked 939 dual core and a GTS 250 or something would keep me in the game for a while yet!), but the prices are insane.

I still managed to get a 3700+ to replace my 3500+ for a tenner from ebay a while ago (clocks at 3ghz and runs COOL unlike my old 3500+ which only clocked to 2.6 and ran quite hot), so at least it will keep me going a little more.

Yeah, supply and demand :(

It really angers me a little that AMD doesn't make these processors any more. There's clearly still demand for them, and so they end up going on ebay for £80+, or something crazy like that.

I mean, if you want money, you should definitely list your old stuff on ebay. The processor should go for at least £40-60.

But oh well. A friend is upgrading soon... So hopefully I can take his old dual core system ¬_¬

Yeh thats the point though... all the demand is in the 2nd hand market, as you can pick up more powerfull more efficient parts, brand new and cheap(ish) - its just a bugger for those looking to buy older components on the cheap.

I wonder what my 7800GS-oc (AGP) is worth...
I run a 939 system as a second PC for media,,, I belive it was one of the 1st generation A64's, a 3200+....there is a lot of them still in use.

How much is 1GB (2 x 512MB) Geil One BH5 worth, 2-2-2-5 timings I think? it was some of the best DDR1 u can buy.

Also a 3500+ venice 939, can do 3280MHz (wr on air) and 2.907GHz 24/7 stable. I wonder how much thats worth now?

i've got 2 sticks 1 gb each (2gb in total) of corsair memory running in this 939 set-up

i've got a 3800+Toledo thats running a stock cooler at 2.4 ghz over the standard 2 ghz
there's defo room for more but without better cooling and a bios flash i won't be going above 2.5ghz.

i'm sure someone on here would make gr8 use of my old 939 stuff altho i'm not alowwed to sell unitl 90 days and 250 posts or something like that :(

I used to have a toledo 3800 AMD x2 and got it to 3217MHz CPU-Z and 3.4GHz BIOS using an AC Freezer 64 iirc. REALLY nice CPU!! still good today too. Nothing too shabby.

I ran it 24/7 at 2750MHz stock volts though it never locked up! on a dfi ultra d 939

I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 3500 at 2.3 Ghz, Asus A8V (1st Rev) with (3 x 1 gig) of DDR 400 Corsair Ram which is attached to my 24" TFT along with my laptop (Full spec here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18079159

It's been pretty solid since I got it and I think the graphics card is pretty rare as there were only 1200 made available for the UK a few years ago. So it should be holding it's value in todays market. Looking at how expensive memory is nowadays does make me wonder what the going rate would be thi s machine. Hell,I was playing Crysis at acceptable frame rates and mid detail settings the other night. The CPU runs around 58C idel and 68 under load. I still love the XBlade MIDI Case design (Black, reflective deathstars) with front/side air intake vents. For graphic design work it's really good with supporting everything I throw at it. Software has made more demands on it though as 3D rendering is limited to a single thread in Cinema 4D which can be painful to watch when compaird to the dualcore 1.73ghz laptop. Propellerheads Reason 4/ Record prefers more cores also

Guilty..... Check the sig lol

Ill be selling my rig soon as ive just ordered 1/2 an i7 920 build (other half next week).

My mobo, cpu and mem have been running for almost 5 years I think, SOLID as a rock.

I do know 1gb sticks of crucial ddr1 3200 pc400 can fetch £17-20 roughly ( i still have the lifetime warranty card for this so may be worth more? )
A 3200 skt 939 with orig heatsink for around £15
Prob £10 for my motherboard although it is a very weird and uncommon brand BUT its been extremely stable!

I must say, mine is also rock solid, never had any issues with it, which is why ive kept it - I may well go back to AMD for my next build.
