Why is the 800D so good?

Apologies if title offends anyone :p

But seriously, looking at this case, I honestly cannot see what all the hype is about. Yes it's a nice big beast of a case, and it's got an all black interior. And lots of hole for cable management. But in terms of features, it's on par with similar prices cases such as some lian li ones.

To me it doesn't look very nice. It looks very 'flat'. It doesn't really have the curves of cases like the TJ07.

No removable motherboard tray. (although this case is HUGE so that's probably not an issue)

Please excuse my blatant ignorance, but what is it about this case that has captivated the masses

I've thought about the case, then looked at its price. Thats why I look elsewhere, still, wouldn't mind one :p

In simply terms, the 800D was built purely for enthusiasts and those with lots of money to throw around. It's contemporary styling and the internal space makes it "easy" - all the cable management features just about prove it.
Other than that, the size of it makes it ideal for water-cooling set-ups, and let's face it, not everyone likes Lian-Li...
There are some nifty features unique to it though :)

It's a big feature rich case thats easy to watercool in (at that later date), it does a lot of things right. I just find the styling a bit bland, i prefer something with some curves.

I am going for it's little brother for exactly the looks i have gotten fed up of led's and curves and want something plain but decent looking. I think it is space more then anything that has made it popular i would hate to think how bad hardware would have to get before you had to worry about it not fitting and when you look at it like that the price could end up being cheap. There is just so much space that you really can let your imagination run wild in watercooling and modding to personalise the case.

Personally ive just bought one. Ive gone from an Antec 1200 which housed all my watercooling internally to this monster of a case. I like its size and the ease at which ive been able to assemble my rig. True its needed a little in the way of modification to get 4 radiators into it but nothing to drastic. The one thing that makes this case the nuts imo is the sheer size.

I also like the simple design of the case, i loved my old antec at first with all its blingy leds but got sort of bored with it all. The 800D is just cleaner looking.

its easy to build in
its the only commercially viable watercooling case on the market
that makes it ideal for companies like OcUK to offer high end water cooled computers for low prices
it does it out of the box with no thought or effort required
i can build a fully watercooled computer into an 800d in about 2 hours, not rushing and make it look pro.
thats cost effective from a business POV

not that end users care but it is built like a tank so it nearly always survives courier transit.

it looks tidy even if you suck at cable management

it has a football pitch behind the motherboard tray to hide a snake pit of cables.

it should have the following to make it much better.

room for another [at least] double rad in theb ottom where there is a massive waste of space.

a quad rad grill in the roof because it fits

capacity to take big boards like the UD9, Classy4 and SR2

pump mounting brackets

the fact that it is the new 'antec 900' of the case world means that every man and his dog has one. which totally negates the point of being individual.

i did think about restoring a damaged one we had at work and modding it to show what could be achieved but i have far too much on to start a new project at the moment.
and the 800d is possibly the least inspiring item i have ever seen

I just love the design and the fact of how neat it is having a separate zones for the motherboard and the PSU. The hot swappable hard-drive bays are great Along with the rubber grommets which make the wiring look really neat.

But the icing on the cake for me is how nice it looks and the space it offers for watercooling. Personally if I wasn't watercooling I wouldn't bother with the case.

I'm all for the minimalist design of the 800D (I made it even more minimalist :p )

I like it's build like a 1900's artillery piece (solid & Idiot proof!)

it's all black and showcases any bling you put inside it..

simply put it's works on so many levels everyone can find at least one reason to buy it .. and if there's a reason not to buy it .. then that part can be easily removed with a bit of Dremel action .. (sorry had to squeeze that in)

Why have a pale imitation when you can have the real thing without the design flaws of the 800d

I was under ther impression it was reasonably popular, not necessarily good (one doesn't always equate to the other). Like any case it has it's advantages and disadvantages.

Sorry to de rail the thread a little but what case is this?

I'm looking to move from my CM690 (currently hacked up,very poorly, with a triple rad on top) to something that can house all my loop internally. I'm looking at the 800D or 700D simply because I don't want to have to do any case mods, i just want my loop to fit out of the box.

but that case above looks like it could hold a triple rad at the top.
