Why is this racist?

The 1st one is racist because it's about a ******, duh.

I'm being ironic, not racist.

Maybe you think that is Ironic but some people will see it as offensive. On the other hand if you happen to be a young black male saying it to another young black it could be seen as friendly banter, Whas up my N****r. But I won't use the full word as it is offensive because im white and using it. Racism is contrdictory in a lot of ways.

That in itself could be called racist. Would my comment have been racist if I has chosen different wording:

"It's racist because it's directed at an African man, duh"

I am opposed to all forms of segregation between races, anything else is racist.

If you mention any indication towards the race of anyone in any statement the PC brigade would say what you are saying is racially motivated.

Exactly, so is my comment. I simply used the word "******" to add several layers of irony.

I never said what you say in your posts is racist, I simply used the post as an example of how the PC brigade will take one word and apply differing rules as to how it may be applied by different racial groups. The fact is when a young black male says to his young black male friend (what's up my N****r). The PC brigade will say and have said that is the young black male taking an opressive term and making it his own in a positive light. I think if a term is offensive it should be offensive whoever uses it, if the term only becomes offensive when used by a certain racial group that in its self is racist. So the PC brigade operate outside the bounds of commonsense which we all knew anyhow.

Not so simple really, moving away from Racism, the context matters. Something which is harmless and I'd laugh off from a friend could be highly offensive coming from a stranger or someone I don't really know...

Don't see how either of them are racist. Perhaps they could be considered offensive, but according to the definition of Racism, it does not exist in those 'jokes'.

And in context, if you were a white guy greeting your black friends in the middle of town, no matter how long you had used the term and how much mirth and general acceptance was given by you friends as you used the term you could be arrested for it. So no matter the context the PC brigade could tear down what you say.

i have never unstood why.... a white man calling a black person black is racist. but the other way around seems to be fine.

It's just considered racist depending on peoples interpretation and context.

Generally speaking I'd say using the word "black" is fine so long as it's not in a derogatory context.

At the siege of Drogheda in September 1649, Cromwell's troops massacred nearly 3,500 people after the town's capture—comprising around 2,700 Royalist soldiers and all the men in the town carrying arms, including some civilians, prisoners, and Roman Catholic priests....

...In the wake of the Commonwealth's conquest, the public practice of Catholicism was banned and Catholic priests were executed when captured. In addition, roughly 12,000 Irish people were sold into slavery under the Commonwealth.

The Barbary pirates' predation was said to extend throughout the Mediterranean, south along West Africa's Atlantic seaboard, and into the North Atlantic as far north as Iceland. These slaves were captured mainly from seaside villages in Italy, Spain and Portugal, and from farther places like France or England, the Netherlands, Ireland and even Iceland and North America.

So we're all pretty much square

Could you? Could you really? I'd like for you to prove that to me.

It is a matter of fact, plod would not think it were funny for you to use the statement incase you offended any people nearby no matter what your friends thought and so could result in you being arrested.

I have a good friend at uni who is black, and the group I usually hang around with take the wee-wee something rotten.

Such terms as "This is cos I is white innit." "******" is by no means off limits.

Ah, right, so it's a fact because you say so.

Brilliant.
