had this problem for a while now and it's annoying me.

click icon, loading screen pops up, does something, then goes black, then nothing, and if i click the icon to load the game again it doesn't do anything at all.

i have the NS expansion installed didn't work, uninstalle didn't work, i have tried updating the game didn't work, reinstalled the whole thing didn't work.

anyone with any suggestions?

nope, punkbusterA still runs afterwards but bf2142 doesn't, tried ending punkbuster and trying again doesn't work. just noticed when it does the black screen bit to go into the game the resolution changes (like with all games afaik) and a bar at the top, like for all windows open, says not responding for less then a second and then closes.

any ideas?

With regards to Northern Strike: have you activated it? I had issues with BF2142 saying it was not installed when EADM says it was. If you have not activated it then go here http://www.ea.com/ealink/ and paste you NS Key into the box at the bottom and again in the next window to activate.

If you are still having problems starting the game try the following:

1. Uninstall 2142 and NS
2. Download patches 1.25 and 1.40 from official sites
3. Make sure any BF2142 folders are deleted including save games in My Documents
4. Install BF2142 to the default location and patch with 1.25
5. Install Northern Strike (if activated online)
6. Patch with 1.40
7. Update Punkbuster manually (download the update utility from Punkbuster)
8. Start the game but if using a firewall make sure the executable is allowed to and from the net for multiplayer

Is there anything in the event log against the executable?

Sounds like the resolution conflict crash to me. Stick your monitor on 60hzs i think it is then start it up & then switch the res once running. Summit like that anyways but i do think it's down to the Res.
