Why isn't there more choice of QWERTY smart phones

It does seem to be an almost Blackberry only market for QWERTY's in the UK, but like you say other things like the Droid in the US.

Only other slider I can think of is the HTC Desire Z which has a decent slide out keyboard, aside from that its really Blackberry, I have the 9900 which I love and find the actual HW keys head a shoulders above any touchscreen typing!

Ye I thought about the Desire Z but is a bit old now, plus I was aiming for dual core, hence I need to know whats coming to the UK in 2012 ;)

Tempted to wait for an intel based phone... No idea how long I'll have to wait though lol

Sorry for saying the BB keyboards suck, I probably should have rather stated the type of keyboard, dont like it on show as it takes up too much room, some of the slide outs are slightly better but I prefer landscape keyboard ;)

Thousands and thousands of enterprise users, and the vast majority of industry critics, disagree.

Do they, or we're they specifically aimed at business witch retain business features, like encryption and erease. Also released at a time when touchscreens were not what they are today.
Companies are now. Switching away from BB, especially as more and more are using iPads as well, makes sense to keep one ecosystem.

But whatever, I absolutely hate the keyboards on them, they are vile.

I almost went for that nokia maemo phone instead of the desire, bu it was dead software, i would like a hardware keyboard, especially with long texts, emails etc. I wouldnt mind wxtra thickness, would prefer that over blackberry design.

I always hated 0-9 keyboards only had one phone with that, hated it. My first phone was the nokia that looked like a 3310 but had half a full keyboard either side of the screen.

If this nexus had to be twice as thick with a HW keyboard would i take it? Id have to try it out, but quite possibly

I'm hoping for a windows mobile phone with a qwerty some time next year, like the proper old school windows mobile smartphones you could get ages ago that had major flaws.

Yeah the old Windows Mobile 5/6 phones often had a slide out keyboard which were pretty good, I have seen rumours about a Keyboard WP7 device next year but nothing solid yet.

It is down to personal preference and I've said that.

How much typing do you think a typical user does? It'll be next to nothing and as such doesn't warrant a HW keyboard. You've already said you are a heavy user and as such fall outside the norm.
a typical user types a lot. more then before when there was no facebook or twitter

So it has nothing to do with the fact BBs are just about the cheapest email phones (a lot by a long shot) you can get... Thousands and thousands may love them, but millions begrudge the fact they have to lug them around as a second phone just for phone calls as they pick up and reply to their work phones on their touch screen personal phone (aka myself and the people I work with).

They are horrible, but the battery lasts a week, they are cheap and they have a presence as the standard in the market which is only now being overturned, one of the reasons why their market share is plummeting.

Except in the UK that is not the case, BB marketshare is still growing here.
