Why join the army

In all honesty, fighting for your country? fighting for Mr Blair's pal bush for oil. Robert Mugabe is an evil tyrant as you know, look at the mess hes making and has made, will they go in and take him out? no because theres no oil or anything thats worthwhile fighting for.

So what? You think we live in a just world? Everything happens for money, power, or both, you fight for your country so your country is better off. When your country is better off your fellow Englishmen are themselfs better off.

edit: Someone let me know of alternative to "better off" please :o :p

After college i expect to start off on around £18,000.

As a factory worker, where you could have night shifts thus get the "unsociable hours" extra cash, you could top that, but most jobs for you are probably around 13k, which means you go home with £800ish a month.

I'm not sure what i wana do yet :/ i'll do anything that pays good, i thought if your risking your life in the army you'd start of at atleast £16,000.

I think when you finish college and face the real world you'll get a shock in terms of what you will be paid.

'anything that pays good' :p

I am fairly sure the majority of servicemen and women currently serving in Iraq and the 'stan would much rather be ordered to Bulford say, or Germany :p
Bulford is boring and Germany is poo without LSSA.

The Government is the Nation and the People. Well, their legally elected representatives anyway.

But that's not why soldiers fight, nor is it for 'Queen and Country' - it's simply for your oppos, the man beside you, the friends you've known and served with for years.
The most true thing on this thread, anybody who has actually been up against it in iraq or afghan will tell you, you dont fight for queen and country or even for your cap badge, not even for your mates, you fight cos of the alternative.
Please knock the forces but ive got an interesting job, ive been with my partner for 18 years and i have two very nice cars and a 200K+ house.
As Public Enemy once said.
Dont believe the hype.
Livin the dream

Ive found a cool fitness regime called spartan training i was thinking of doing that in some of my gym sessions each week, do you think its worth it.
Ive just watched that and to be honest, joining the Army is a little more than doing press ups and lunges.
Im not sure what part of the Army you are interested in or even if you want to be a soldier but if anything, effort will get you a long way, i dont mean the kind of effort that the average joe thinks.
Somebody once told me that' a horse will run till it uses 95% of its energy and lay down and die, humans will run till they use 65% of their enrgy and lay down and think they will die.
Use cardio (running fast for 6 miles) and if needed, weight training and get the right attitude. I never come 1st at any P Company event (para training) but i won champion recruit cos i put 100% into all i did.
The Army will do the rest.
See you at the FRV

Exactly right. This isnt about working out at home its about pushing yourself over distance and to the edge of your fitness and going a step further. Work on endurance and build yourself up that way. It will help you lots more than that video (all though that will make you very strong...30 reps of pulls ups...yeah go for it on your first go...). That isnt the sort of fitness you need for the army they dont want bulk they need endurance.

why? can only think of a few reasons, that would be if you want to be paid to be trained to kill people or get killed yourself or have bits of you blown of. or is that all changed these days? can you join and not be trained to shoot, stab, club to death other humans?

I just dont agree with the current war

Maybe if we get starrted in a nice war(lol?)

I like a challenge, self motivation, pushing my self that little further

ive been to 2 training day outs with the army and loved it

I love tactics and the clever side of the army

Anyway

yea

Don't lose track of the fact that the basic purpose of a soldier is to kill people or force them to obey by threatening to kill them. That can be regretably necessary, but it isn't like training or an appreciation of tactical ability and cleverness. It can be an honourable choice to make, but make it with your eyes open to what it entails.

Or the woman to his religion?
Strictly speaking, a Moslem is not allowed to convert to another religion. Apostasy is not treated lightly and can be considered a reason to kill someone. In countries under Islamic law, people have been executed for it.

cheers ok ill keep to what ive been doing and ill forget that, and just keep trying to improve my endurance. I go running about twice a week and on top of that go to the gym 4-5 times a week which has really helped.
But anway i run about just over 4 miles, so to improve my endurance should i run the 4 mile faster each time or do an extra mile onto my run every couple weeks or so?

cheers in advance :)

im sort of playing with the idea of doing kickboxing once or twice a week but then id have to give up something.

current fitness regime
Running 2x a week
gym 4-5 a week

new fitness regime
running 2x a week
gym 3-4 a week
kickboxing 1-2 a week

So what do you think should i take up kickboxing or keep to my current regime.
