Why more power?

I ran my XP2100, 512mb ram, Gainward Ti4600 750XP, various other odds and sods for 5 years - served me in damn good stead. I used it for video editing (Premier), design (Studiotools), engineering (Floworks & Catia), artwork (photoshop) and a lot of playing games on.

Hell, it even ran DOD:S in good quality, served me very well and never went wrong.

The only thing that eventually kicked me out was the fact that the newer version of Alias were getting gradually more heavyweight and so were my models, along with the lengthy time taken to process any avis I was working on.........in effect, I out-grew what it was useably capable of.

So, relegated to the draw were the old bits and a new bundle installed :)

Another 5 years service mehopes. If I can get 10 years out of the case, that'll do nicely :D

the simple answer is a question itself.

why not?

we would not have evolved into the human race we are if people sat back and said 'we dont need anything better, anything than can do more'.

Having said that, im sure i remember reading an article with some marketing person from one of the main gfx manufacturers, he said that the main reason for the need to keep doing more, is because of games.
the way games are developed now means that the current and generally the next generation of cards will not run the games to their best.
