All,

I have been reading through many of the SSD optimisation guides and I note that they all say that an SSD should not be allowed to powerdown when using a powersaver option winthin Windows 7. However I cannot find any info as to WHY this should not be used? Does anyone know?

I followed this guide:

Also separately why are they also recommending to never shut off the monitor? Surely thats unrelated to the SSD?

Regards Neil.

It's not really needed on modern drives with a modern OS, but back before TRIM support was everywhere drives needed to be idle in order to run garbage collection routines and maintain performance over time.

So is it good practice to power it down now or keep it on all the time? Mine has Trim enabled.

TRIM won't work if it's powered down, so best to keep it on.

On the bit about never turning off monitors, I can't see why you need to do that. I have mine set up so the displays turn off after 30 minutes and my SSD is still doing good.
