Why not remake old games?

I got thinking today after a quick play of Quake 2 on Steam how many great games never get played now because of either incompatabilty problems or awfully dated graphics.

Take the Half Life Black Messa mod -how great to play the originol HL but with modern graphics.
Why not have c+c Tiberium Sun with modern graphics yet exactly the same game instead of that rubbish they just rtealeased?

So the question is......how many people would go out and buy a re release with a modern engine? And how many younger gamers would get the new experience anyway as they missed out first time round?

whenever i see this question asked i always wonder why bother? i would rather see gaming evolve and experience new things, so no I probably wouldnt pay for remakes. HOWEVER as someone who has never played god of war I will probably be picking up the rereleases on the ps3 so as you said it can be good for gamers who never played the games first time around

I wish someone would hurry up and do it to Final Fantasy 7 so I can get on and play this apparently incredible game without it looking like a Playmobil scene. Im not an all graphics no substance kind of guy but I have limits!

Yeh but most games don't evolve they just get worse!

tbh i dunno if i would like it that much, i mean yeah, the prospect of remaking stuff like Settlers 2 (as no-offence but the new Settlers suck :-P) annnd Quake 2 annnnd Half-Life 1 (Black Mesa Mod is good but meh) annnd Final Fantasy 7 .. .. and 8 :-D annnnd sooo many other titles.

But then it would ruin that awesome memory that you once had of a classic title that every so often you blow the dust off and play for a couple of days/weeks just to get that old retro gaming feel back .. .. .. or is that just me? =P

hmmmmmm yeah i think i would actually like to see that remade as it was groundbreaking stuff being able to blow up walls and stuff but i didnt think it the most impressive looking at the time, so yes, definitely :)

I was thinking about games remade, and they already have remade quite a few:
Serious Sam HD - updated graphics
Secret of Monkey Island - new graphics & interface (to be followed by MI2 later this year)
Broken Sword 1 was remade for modern gamers (simpler interface)
Tomb Raider Anniversary was arguably a remake of the original tomb raider - same story and level design, just a few new tricks and pretty graphics thrown in.

I also think every championship manager game is surely a remake, but with the names changed??? (accusation based on no fact, just speculation)

Half Life Source - original half life with a lick of paint on it - inferior to what Black Mesa will be, but at least it's released.

Would you consider CSS a remake of CS?

I remember some of the Resident Evil games were remade for the gamecube and were quite popular....

Fallout 1/2 would be the sex with modern gfx power.

**** first person just make uber high ress/detail iso please.

But it's pre-rendered art with albeit terrible 32-bit polygonal characters but the backdrops are stunning at times with the art.
