Why oh why can i not watch videos!?

I'm on orange broadband, originally wanadoo before they took over.

I'm on the 8mb package but according to the website i am getting 2mb speed, or my line can support that anyway.

Up until last week havnt really had any problems, the internet was slow as you'd expect but didn't prevent me from watching youtube or playing online games.

Last week however i noticed that youtube didnt seem to be working, videos would load as if i was on a 56k connection. Tried other websites, iplayer etc which is usually very good, but the same story. Noticed i get random lag during gaming now too, its not constant but lag patches that arnt server side and didn't happen before last week.

I did a few tests and my internet speed actually seems better than usual when downloading - when downloading anything my speed was usually around 50-220kps but have seen it goin at 320kps since the change. (never seen it go above 220-230 before ever).

Anyone got any ideas as its really annoying not being able to watch videos

Try using an network cable also try the following.

DNS1: 208.67.222.222
DNS2: 208.67.220.220

Change MTU to: 1432

That should help a bit.

Also could you or someone explain how changing those settings would help and what it does, never come across it before?

If someone wouldn't mind letting me know how i can test to see where the route of the problem maybe stemming from i would appreciate it - i know theres some noise margin stats and stuff that effect it, but have no clue about specifics.

Also anyone know how long it takes to change ISP nowadays, if it was an instant thing i would probably just do this and save any further hassle tbh. Bit put off by the waiting times to exchange the code they need tho.

A quick thing: head to www.speedtest.net and run a speed test; post the image here. Would be a good starter for ten

Have you restarted your router/modem? Maybe your connection has been upgraded which would explain the speed increase and if your modem has not been restarted since this upgrade then you will see flaky pings etc.

should not need to change MTU to 1432, adsl works okay with 1472.
more likely orange as an isp is crap, a lot of people seem to complain.
