Why PayPal?

Paypal are a bunch of crooks for selling. The fact eBay own them and profit from both seller fees and then charge for receiving money needs to be looked into. As I say... crooks.

Absolute nonsense. Paypal might be owned by eBay but it is a completely separate business. Processing transactions costs money.

The eBay fees are for the service of selling your items and advertising them to potentially millions of users.

Do you think eBay should have acquired Paypal for $1.5bn and then not charged anyone to use it?

FoxEye, one reason a seller may prefer Paypal is if THEY don't want to link Paypal to their bank account but they want the funds in their Paypal account to make purchases.

There is obviously the additional concern over fraudulent use of your account details as they could technically be used to set up a direct debit. Although you'd get your money back it's still a ballache and may impact your finances temporarily.

might have got a lot more people using ebay.

I generally check amazon first these days if I'm going to "buy it now" on tools , diy stuff ,small appliances etc

just because ebay is a money gouging piece of crap and not he bargain place it once was

Paypal is just arse. I dont understand why anyone would use it on the MM either (as a seller at least), additional fees, more faffing around to actually get the money into your bank and increased risk.

Bank transfer BOSH look there is my money, I can spend it instantly with no fuss.

All it takes is a log in to paypal, click withdraw funds, and the money is in your bank account within seconds. Not that much fuss really.

As far as I know its pretty instant. Had a couple of transactions recently and after the buyer paid I transfered the amount to my bank account.

But as far as anyone can see, there is no reason to refuse BT?

It's not less secure than PP, I think we can mostly agree on that?

Maybe they want money in PP account as they use it. There's also difference in PayPal fees depending where money comes from. Or at least used to be.
If you send a gift with funds that are already in PayPal you pay no fees.

But you can only add funds to your PayPal account using a linked bank account.

You can't add funds from a card (debit or credit).

So again, unless you're willing to link your bank account, you can't avoid fees.

He's not adding funds from either of those options. He's getting someone else to add funds, he can then use on future purchases. Hence wanting payment through PayPal. He gets funds in and can then spend them. So many sites use paypal, there is little reason to transfer funds back to a bank account these days.
