Hi people,
Afew years ago I was accused of sening abusive texts for a girl even thought it wasnt me.

So after that I started saving texts and only deleting when there was no space. I also started saving my MSN Chat history.

But I have recently been thinking, if it ever happened to me again would my MSN Chat history stan up in court? or would the police just not believe it as it can easily been changed?

If it would stand upin court what is the point of been able to save your history?

I don't think it would stand up in court, as it's only an editable text file IIRC.

It's only used for people that want to look back on things and maybe relive memories of past conversations, not to be used to protect yourself legally.

I never save my chat history, mainly I spose because I wouldnt look back on them, and it would be wasted space! Although I do sometimes wish I could look back on past convos!

Chat logs and screenshots can help legal cases as i friend of mine who was accused of rape (wasnt guilty but couldnt prove it) by his ex GF.
He was chatting with said girl who was basically a bit screwed in the head and taking the urine by sending various conversations and naked  photos to said mate on his pc and she didnt realise that he saved his chat logs and screen shots and gave them to his solicitor.
Anyway cut long story short this evidence was used in the court hearing and my mate got off from the fact that his ex GF was clearly missing a few brain cells from what had been accumulated fron msn chat logs and screenshots of msn as well as it being her word against his.

I save mine, its just memories, never thought of it as a legal defence.
Same here. I just like looking back but i'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to all sorts of things like that :o

also can be used as ammunition by mental parents. Remember this fact and DELETE THEM ALL!! We've actually been sent reams of them in the post, highlighted and all kinds.

i've got mine saved from march 2004 i have MSN plus! so it saves them automatically!

i have got some good memories on there and there is some stuff off when my m8 was arguing with his ex which did in handy when she denied she didn't say things :D

and it takes up 10mb and thts 1026 files and 25 folders which isn't a lot and there are some very long conversations in there :)

I find it useful to have convo's automatically logged. I wish I could do it with face to face conversations. If I'm working on a project with someone it's useful to be able to look back at things you discussed previously about it.

I always found myself keeping it then deleting the whole lot in moments of anger / wishing to forget and so on, so I've decided to turn the saving off. Much better for my sanity that way!
