Why should I buy a gaming mouse?

I'm amazed that someone actually sat down and designed this, or was it a a cupa soup accident? :p

I've seen that in purple shirted world :p

Who the hell needs 3200 dpi?

And yes it's disgusting although they had the blue version which I suppose didn't look AS bad as the orange one.

But on topic, I love my microsoft habu. It's my first ever gaming mouse and the change from standard to gaming mouse is amazing.

With the sensativity up I can move across the wholse screen with a small flick of the mouse and then I can lower the sensativity while sniping on 2142. ;)

Missed my MX518 by five minutes (posty came 5 minutes after I'd left the house) and it was too late to go to the sorting office when I got home from work. Hopefully be able to get it tomorrow :D , although I'm dreaming of deathadders at the moment :p

had a razor and sold very quickly due to very light and uncomfortable to hold( for my hands at least)

changed for a g5 which was lovely and then changed to the carbon g7 i have now which i love but will have to rma as its started to freeze randomly for 1 to 5 seconds at a time, very annoying

melbourne just get a razer copperhead, i also had the plasma diamondback, the side buttons on the copperhead are very good, abit bigger aswell than a diamondback.

i think its worth the price very good design :)

I got a MS intelliexplorer 3 thingy.

Anyways it's not a mouse, it's a ******* RAT, way too big. :s

but after gettin used to it, it's alright. I recommend one ;)

Well I've got my MX518 and had a good couple of days getting used to it.

Its a very good mouse, although being my first gaming mouse I can't really say whether it great or just good. It felt very big compared to my old Packard Bell optical mouse. Had to order a Belkin Wavecrest mouse mat with wrist rest due to the bottom of my wrist rubbing against the desk when using the mouse. This could be because the mouse is slightly too big for my hand, although I'm getting more used to the size with every passing day.

The extra buttons on the mouse make gaming a pleasure and the DPI switch is very handy. The scroll wheel doesn't feel right though, it feels like it belongs on a £2 mouse, not a £30 one. My old packard bell wheel was a lot better than this one. Very dissapointed with the wheel. The button on the top of the mouse only works when the logitech Setpoint software is installed (50 MB for a fancy mouse driver :o !), which is rather annoying as I'm sure using the Logitech Setpoint software has made my mouse less responsive during gaming.

Overall I'd give the mouse 7 out of 10, mainly due to the scroll wheel issue, button on top issue and the size of the mouse, and also because I've only seen a modest increase in my BF2 scores  .

But on the whole well worth checking out.

I like Setpoint, make sure you turn off mouse acceleration in Setpoint if you're FPS gaming and change to Setpoint implementation, not Windows.

Goes to show, like i said, its down to preference not just what people say is the best coz they use it and like it.

I've used a G5 and its pap compared to my MS mouse in my opinion, i just don't get on with the Logi's.

cant beat it, but its not value for money is it?

i thought the whell on my 518 is fine tbh. maybe a little more resistance would be nice, but thats nit picking really. the one thing i would change is the weight of it. make it just a little heaver.

Still can't beat the cordless Logitech G7, has 2000dpi and is still recommended by loads of websites. Its pretty expensive though so only buy if you can afford it

No can or can't beat it..... its preference, not everyone finds Logitech mice comfortable or nice to use, i'm one such person.

I've tried the G5, and the Razer mice, some of the most highly rated mice, yet for me they feel awful.

As i said, its down to the individual's preference.

That is truly disgusting.

Hi,

Not being funny or nothing but have you guys tried this mouse?

I absolutely love it. Ive tried several gaming mice in the past and i just bought the saitek gt3200 and to be frank its bloody amazing!

My ranks have increased and my score are 10 times better. It may be that i have big hands ;) or maybe just preferance but its class.

I have the blue one and the whole concept of weights and different friction pads does seem abit daunting but worth the effort to get it spot on.

Its totally customizable and the program that accompanies it well :)

I could go on but you get the gist of it :D

I've got it set to that mate thanks. I'm just really disapointed you need to use the software in order to use the top button. Is there any way around this. Hack maybe?

On second thoughts its not bad at all. It does the job perfectly well. My packard bell mouse wheel was so tight it was unbelievable. The MX518 is just a little slacker compared to the PB, but I'm getting used to it now.

On second thoughts and using the mouse now, I'd probably give the mouse 8/10. :)

Any MX518 users about? I've found a program that you can use with the mouse (any mouse really) were you can increase the USB polling rate, therefore reducing the mouse's latency from 8ms to 2ms, just shy of the Deathadder. I suppose its sort of overclocking the mouse :)

The MX518 stock polling rate is 125hz = 8ms latency. With this program you can increase it to 500hz = 2ms latency. You can also increase the polling rate to 1000hz = 1ms latency, but I think the max the MX518 can do is 750hz and mines seems to max out at about 600-620hz.

To test your mouse polling rate download this program:

http://files.filefront.com/dx_mouse_timer_dialogexe/;6313265;/fileinfo.html

To change the polling rate (USB only):

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/USB-Mouserate-switcher.shtml

Beware, please make sure your motherboard can take the new polling rate. For older motherboards I'd advise caution.

I've set my MX518 to 500hz and not had any problems so far. I'm not really sure If I can feel a difference to be honest, so it might not be worth bothering with.

Ta :)

yeah ive had mine set to 1ms for a while. it does top at at 600-650 as your did. there is a difference in gaming, but it also slows your mouse down so you have to up the acceleration in windows and your games to compensate. makes a nice difference though, very smooth.

oh and.....yeah, i knew you'd come round to it;)

I use it myself but am looking to upgrade to a Deathadder. Gets a 10/10 from me though, had it years and it's still brilliant.

500Hz too, you may not notice it, but it is better.
Check this link, a multiple mouse review by gamers with varying Hz, you might be interested !
