Why should I buy Windows 7 ?

Ok, Ive been using XP for as long as I can remember, mainly because I dont really 'use' Windows for anything, for me its just an operating system to let me play games.

About 2 years ago I got Vista 64bit as I bought Just Cause 2 which needs a minimum of Vista to play. Since then I have had a dual boot rig with XP 32bit and Vista 64.

As it turns out (according to reviews) Vista is not very good and Windows 7 is everything Vista should have been.

So, my question is this, considering all I use my rig for is to play games and the usual email and internet etc. Is there any benefit in getting Windows 7 64bit to replace Vista?

How do you feel about Vista? Do you have problems in Vista?

If you are happy then dont change it, if you are having problems then change to Windows 7.

Its not so much 'problems', infact Vista has been fine. But am I sacrificing resources to Vista when Win 7 isnt so demanding, is there much difference?

Also, something that amazed me was after being fully updated, Vista takes up almost 30gig of HDD space, is Win 7 the same?

Vista is basically everything bad about XP with the looks of 7, but lacking functionality lol

7 is natural progression from XP

When I bought my last PC it came with Vista, but with the option of a free upgrade from HP to upgrade it to 7.

Vista lasted about a week on my 7.

Thankfully HP messed up with the upgrade discs and send me both 32 and 64 bit

Yeah but why, what are the benefits, if any?

Having made the move myself a while back I can give you some anecdotal help which you can choose to ignore if you wish.

My computer runs significantly better than it did under Vista. It's faster, smoother, has less compatability issues, and is a pleasure to use.

Given your stated use, I don't think you'd notice much difference in practice beyond the new taskbar, and the generally slicker and tidier interface. Win7 is supposedly less demanding in hardware terms, but personally I haven't noticed much difference between them performance-wise.

Also, don't forget Windows 8 will be launching next year, so unless you're experiencing problems it probably makes sense to stick with Vista until then.

You already have that "goodness" in Vista so you don't need Windows 7 for that.

As it has already been noted...

If you don't want to don't. If you do then do it.
... for the cost it is not going to bring a major difference to what your needs are. which seem to be satisfied already. Unless there are specific reasons to dual boot you could look at just having Vista and then wait until next year for Windows 8.

At this stage, along with what you have written, I would not be investing in Windows 7 with a new OS "just around the corner".

Win 7 >> XP !!

Win 7 is miles better then xp

...and how is that going to help the OP with what he has asked..?
It isn't about which OS is better than the other but what will suit his needs with what he does and whether at this point there is any reason to spend money on changing that. :)

It might depend on what graphic card you have, I upgraded to win764 from XP32 so I could take advantage of DX10 & 11 with my GTX580 plus being able to use all my 6GB memory for gaming.
Apart from that I actually prefer XP for just about everything else as I find some things with 7 really annoying so I have both systems on separate drives.

What triggered me to get Win7 was Just Cause2, GAME ADVERT ALERT :D I bought it ages ago without realising it wouldn't play on XP & had it sitting on the shelf, it's worth changing just to enjoy the fantastic huge open world of go anywhere from the top of mountains to the bottom of the sea with superb streaming graphics,I still can't understand why other games can't do the same.

I would hold off for now unless you really want to try Windows 7.

I had no issues with Vista at all although I did switch over to Windows 7. As long as your current install is fine then I wouldn't waste my money switching.
