It seems that every week we get at least one or two threads about a bug or spider someone has found in there house.

Then there is a barrage of people saying OMG how gross/Scary is that or how much they hate them and how much they make them feel weird and scare them and what not.

What is so scary about something that is so small and isnt really all that disgusting and in most cases perfectly harmless?

Are people just becoming soft little wusses these days or something or are you doing it all for show? :p

it's a phobia

phobia=irrational fear

irrational fear=no rationalising

so .... it doesn't matter whether they can hurt you or not - that's the whole point of something being irrational.

Every thing seems to be a Phobia/Disorder/Syndrome these days, Why dont people stop being soft and using them as excuses and try to get over them :p

I actually had therapy to try and 'get over' my spider phobia. I actually passed out with fear several times during the therapy and in the end my psychiatrist said he thought it would be detrimental to my health to carry on.

Why not try face it head on instead of going to a Psychiatrist to talk about spiders?

Try picking up a daddy long legs to start with and begin from there :) (just dont pick up white tails or red backs but i imagine you dont ahve those there anyway)

See I can't do that. I don't think it's right :(

So I'm stuck. I can't pick them up and put them outside, and I can't/wont squish them.

I'm more scared of daddy long legs than I am of spiders. Ask Kellee_001 or Haly what happened when a spider jumped on my shoulder when I was talking to them last month. I was sent to a psychiatrist because it was becoming such a problem that I would pass out when I saw one. How do you expect me to pick one up?

Even so, why the hell should I? I wouldn't force you to do something you were scared of because I thought it was stupid. I'd just respect that you didn't like it/didn't want to do it and leave it there.

I was thinking about that as soon as I saw this thread tbh. I was very impressed with how you reacted. :)

Does this mean that irrational numbers are scary? :p

I used to be a Nervous and scared person and stll am a bit.
I was scared of almost anything that could hurt or kill me some how.

But then one day i thought to my self "Hang on this is BS, If other people can do that so can i"
I just took complete control of my self and my nerves and fear even though i was crapping my self at the time i just used will power to push through it and off the cliff i went :p

TBH ive never felt more excited or such a rush then pushing through the fear barrier for the first time :)
It makes you feel free.

It wont just help with your fear of spiders but will help you do anything you dont want to do or scared of doing because you will know how to take control of your emotions and fears :)

Depends on what they're doing!

I'll be honest. I used to be an absolute nervous wreck. Frightened to do anything. Now I'm frightened of hardly anything and I know exactly what you're talking about in terms of feeling free. However, I'm still scared of spiders and although that will never change, I'm a lot better than I used to be. I used to cry and almost faint if one came near me - however now I can just ignore it and not get upset. But I'll still panic if one touches me (it was on my BARE SHOULDER  ), but I survived :D

Thanks Kell, I suppose screeching, stamping, crying, shivering, etc etc was an improvement on what people might have expected. Kate was awesome - just picked it up and out it went.

that's the difference isn't it. i'm sure people with a phobia of spiders could let one run across their face. but wake up with one on you and it's a different matter. i've no fear of cockroaches, i could handle one, but i was on holiday once and i woke up with one on my naked foot and... well... put it this way... the sheets needed a'changing ;)
