Why spend £40+ on a HD camera when you can use your 5D mkII as a webcam!

Just wondered this myself and decided to google around. And to my amusement I found this little software that makes the 5D MKII as a webcam.

Other cameras are supported so check it and try that. I already have a standard logitech webcam but since I found this out my 5D MKII is another useful tool!

No sound though

My sister has a 550D and I'm thinking of getting one in a few months (maybe 600D) - so this would allow awesome looking 1080p video chat - very cool.

it doesn't quite do 1080 but goes up to 720. I only tested it on msn and works fine. Anyone able to get it on skype or any IM software?

Ah, fair enough - still 720p is great. Especially when you can use a proper lens with your "webcam".

Do you know what the maximum framerate available with 720p streaming is? Hopefully it will be something decent for smooth video.

It works pretty well! The 450D runs at about 800x500 but with the Tamron 17-50mm everythings nice and sharp.
