Just tried with a 40d and tamron 17-50, worked pretty well although the massive watermark whilst trying to use it on Skype didn't make it to useful. Might have to splash out for the full version!

Surely leaving the camera on for long periods of time shouldn't be too much of an issue for those that have video recording capabilities anyway?

Yeah that'd be longer I imagine - the 8 minutes of SSS recording on Alpha SLT cameras was bemoaned, and they have 29 minutes recording when not shot with IS, so I'd imagine the Canon video DSLRs would come close to that if not surpassing it
