why the hell do parents ask your advice on computer stuff and then ignore it?!?!?

The problem comes when they've acted against your advice, and then expect you to fix everything when it's gone to pot, purely because they ignored your advice. I mean, they're basically asking you exactly what to buy. When you tell them, and they ignore you, what was the point in doing it in the first place?

Yeah, they just flog your wallet right at the start! I don't think it's an entirely fair comment though. I paid £900 for my samsung ultrabook, similar money to macbook. It's well built, metal chassis and minimal bloatware.

Agreed, but you've partly missed my point. You as a customer had to research that Samsung, and check its specification and bundled software against other rival alternatives, and were able to do this as you've enough technical ability and interest to do this.

Most people care so little about this, that Mac can seem an easy choice for them. They choose based on what size they want, or what they can stretch their budget to, and are guaranteed good build quality and no junk installed.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying this is why Apple are rolling in cash right now :)

The issue with macbooks is they have nothing at the end of the market where most people buy, ie sub £500.

iPad much? :p
