Why the huge variation in AIB 5090 pricing?

It seems even crazier to me, that the FE is probably the air cooler that I'd most want, over the AIB ones!
The fact they crammed that much cooling into the form factor they did is fantastic, the 3x and 4x FE coolers were also great - My 3060ti FE is the most impressively built air cooled card card I've ever owned.
... the only thing I'd pay more for is a waterblock without voiding warranty (but not £1k more, I'd rather just pay £1-250 for the block and take the odds on the card failing!)

Edit: ....and the Astral LC is £1500 more than the FE
It's only 1k, ;) and a thing of beauty .

No competitor price hinting.... but I guess that would include the FE too, so fair enough ;)

....and with that £1k, I could buy a GPU block, CPU block, a pump/res (possibly distro) and a radiator or 2 :P

Referring to OCs latest price ;). Totally agree and bought a Ventus last week to do just that. But had a little more coil whine than the Astral LC, and unsurprisingly didn't overclock/ undervolt as well.
Sent the Ventus back and decided to keep the Astral LC. I like it, and decided not worth the hassle, for me, now to go custom loop again.
It's my 'treat' to myself, but totally agree with you and 5 years ago would defo have went that route...with a 5080 as the 5090 would have been unaffordable.
Good range now available from OCs to suit everyone/budget hopefully.

@Vito
Oh.... Yeah they've dropped the price since my previous post :D
I can't bring myself to do it personally, even a 5080 - Mostly as I don't find enough gaming time to justify upgrades these days, 7900XT will do for a couple of years more I think! (although I was very tempted by 5950x to 9950x3d!)

Enjoy the upgrade/new build :)

The lower the volume the higher the margin because the market is smaller, everyone wants their cut from Nvidia > TSMC > AiBs > Shipping > Distributors > Retailers

There is a market for 5090s selling at £4k, its just a very small market and those people don't care if it creates price inflation because some of those will pay £5k for the successor.

Only two solutions really, you get Nvidia to make more Blackwell chips for the consumer market (good luck with that) or you don't buy. Tbh unless you're running high resolution PCVR there really is very little to be gained from having a 5090 you are basically into Gucci handbag products at this point. Fine if that is what you want some people like that sort of thing.

What I find particularly dishonest is the whole founders edition MSRP pricing and non-availability situation. More supply would force AIBs to complete with this price anchor instead its left to go free market and that is always bad for consumers when supply is limited just as we saw with the Oasis ticket nonsense. However if enough people don't care and do what they want we all continue to get rolled I'm afraid that is the world we live in.
