why the lack of quality racing games?

Once again everyone has forgotten about Richard Burns Rally :(
It's ancient (2003 ?) but still by far the best rally game for PC.

I prefer Live for Speed for my circuit racing fix.
You don't have the trouble of making sure you have the same versions of various mods to race online that you get with rFactor etc.

I'm probably going to get a slap for this, given all the serious racing games mentioned, but Burnout Paradise is really fun :)

Agreed, not a fan of simulations, find them a bore!

Completed it on 360 then bought it for PC when it came out and did it again, loved it.

G25 + GTR Evolution / Live For Speed = Win Win!

Although Gran Turismo 5 with the possibilities of slapping a great big turbo on something as pitiful as a Hyundai i10 really really appeals to me :)

PC racers are for pure simulations with I absolutley love. The GT series I love even more!

...and it looked like a turd with some icing on top.

I liked Dirt. Never really a fan of sims though when it comes to driving. Definitely disagree about how it looked though (at the time anyway). Remember being fairly impressed, especially when you did a slo-mo replay.

What about Grid. Great game imo. Awesome Singleplayer and great Multiplayer. Only downside is lack of tracks and cars, but it looks great so I let it off.

Rfactor 1gig download works as a trial so try that.

Wish we had a Gran Turismo on PC, they are awesome games, perfect balance in my opinion, with plenty of cars, tracks and events.

GTR:Evo is good with my DFP wheel, as is GT Legends and rfactor. Live for speed is the most realistic handling I find.

DiRT 2 will probably be more pure arcade action, which is OK for the console fanboys and for when i'm feeling like a quick 'pick up and play' race, prettymuch the same for GRID. Looking forward to the codies F1 game, though I am fully prepared for the fact it could be overpriced, worthless arcade rubbish.

A new Geoff Crammond realistic F1 game would be best though, still play GP4, it's ace! Needs new graphics, physics and handling nowadays though, i'm sure it's not hard, just the games don't sell as the hardcore racers are only a small proportion of the market unfortunately.

Also, another vote for RBR having sublime handling when it's set up right.

Good shout from Bean0 - Richard Burns Rally is still awesome and has some great mods.

Also used to really like Rally Trophy - great retro rally cars.

And of course the greatest sim racer ever - Grand Prix Legends.

I agree but I don't think he has the rights to do it anymore. I pretty sure Sony purchased the rights to F1.

its not that he doesnt have the rights(he didnt have the rights to the name when he did the first grand prix), its that he had enough just working on grand prix and went off to do other stuff(Sentinel 2 and stunt car racer 2) but no idea if he`s still working on them

Race Driver GRID.

Unbelievable graphics and very hard/realistic and very very fast.......

it's my favourate race game.

Albert.

In terms of realism iRacing is about as good as it gets at the moment though it is expensive for some and the car options are limited and very US centric. In terms of the 'experience' nothing betters it today with good graphics, fantastic cars and tracks and physics that move the game on.

rFactor is also very good with lots of track and car options and though the interface is a bit dated its a great game with more options than you can shake a stick at. Not as realistic as iRacing and many of the mods lack solid physics but good fun none the less. Simbin always make good games too so most of theirs are worth checking out and though dated in some ways I have always been impressed with the 'feel' of their games.

If you want arcade racers I am not your man however as they are not really my thing.

Over the weekend I tried rfactor and iRacing,

rfactor I found really dated and imo not as good as GTR EVO.

iRacing however, so far its immense it really is very close to the real thing, the cars are very hard to drive but incredibly rewarding once you start to get it right. The people that have said the limited car and track options are a bonus are spot on, it really makes you perfect your racing lines and makes the races really competitive.

The licensing system is good too, it penalizes you for crashing and hitting other cars which makes most people toe the line. Theres nothing worse than spending 30 mins on GTR EVO qualifying only to be taken out on the first corner. In iRacing there is still contact but its less likely to end your race.

I love GTR/GTR2/GTLegends/GTR EVO with my G25 wheel...awesome.

Can someone recommend a decent site with mods/add ons etc, I seem to have lost touch with them.
