why the slow speed

ive been on bt option 3 for a while now and the problem is when i download from usenet i get full download speed and when downloading from a site like fileshack ect i only download @ 17kps to 70 kps plus i can't stream either just keep having to waiting till it downloads because the pausing does my head in im using ther bt home hub ive rang bt and they say theres no problem

It's to do with the upload of the connection of the server your connecting to/how many other users are connecting. Not to mention when you use usenet you are making multiple connections to different servers whereas via fileshack you're only making 1.

Try a download manager.
 
what would be the problem with the streaming i cant watch u tube or nothing.

do a bt speedtest - it gives some useful info about your line and adsl max profile

do you have any idea what you normally sync at and what speeds you usually get?

at this early stage, i'm guessing it's just BT sucking hard as usual. i had to leave them last year for the same reasons you're experiencing right now. the web was unusable at times. it's not cheap for a dialup like service. :p since i moved away, i've never had problems streaming anything (including youtube). :)
 
I cant steam radio 1 at anything more than 20kbps during peak time, and even then it stutters quite a lot. damm bt and their evil traffic management!!
 
James whats ** line stats im curious what they are with regards to your 4mb Be speed. As im woundering if there good or worse than mine (line att 52-53 and snr noise abotu 11 to -1 fluctuates most of the day)

think my line goes round in cirlcle's
i stay 1.6km from exchange max i can get is 4mb
until bt reroute the cable
 
Im about a mile and a half from my exchange (10 min bus ride) but it must be a rubbish route it goes on and i doubt bt will be bothered to reroute it. I get about 2.5mb speed.
