If you are a serious gamer, then the Wii needs to fail..

Currently it's at the top of the next gen. Nintendo's shares have soared, the thing is a massive hit. It's brought Nintendo back into the non-portable console market. BUT the thing is it's a last gen machine that has a few fancy tricks up its sleeve.. Namely the nunchuk and a few innovative games. Nothing more !

What does this mean to us the serious gamer? Well going by what nintendo has done, then why should Sony or Microsoft bother taking technology further for their next console. They'll think lets save millions in R&D and just slap on a few innovative gadgets and market the thing like it's the next best thing since sliced bread.

Since gaming began, I've always been excited at the new technology and what its brought into gaming. Namely graphical prowness. I think the Wii is bad for the gamer. If it's a commercial success, then others will follow in its trail, and the next gen machines will not cost as much at the sacrifice of the latest techology.

Don't get me wrong. I love games and gaming, and hats off to Nintendo.. But my opnion is if it's marketed as next gen, then that is exactly what it should be. My worry is that next gen will no longer be something to get excited about.

How can you call yourself a serious gamer without playing the best games that Nintendo have to offer on the Wii?

You may consider yourself a serious gamer but you are not

actually i had one and sold it cos i couldn't stomach the graphics.. sad i know, but i want to see something that blows me away when i go next gen and that the Wii isn't.

Yes I know gfx doesn't make a game. So why don't we all stick to PS2's.... and the original xbox's.

LOL.. this thread shows how narrow minded some people are..

I have all 3 consoles, and as a 'gamer' (not sure what status..) I love the Wii...

Okay, change my comments to 'The Wii could be bad news for any serious hardware junkie' If it makes you happy.

The point I am / was trying to make is boardroom boffs will look at the wii's success and say we do not need to go extravigant on hardware specs for our next system and use the same strategy as Nintendo... I'm not dissing the Wii in any way. I had one, I have a DS, I had a N64 and my favorite console of all time was my SNES ! But I do look forward to the next 'latest' technology being implemented to future consoles.

eh i dont get it, u admit that gfx dont make a game and yet u say that the wii doesnt push technology forward... it has the most innovative controller system out of any 3 consoles. so much so that that alone has attracted many people to play it who wouldnt touch a console before...

from the way u have come across it seems that u think a serious gamer = someone who plays the games that look pretty...

cod4, isnt that also out on the wii? and yet u can use the nunchucks and what not to play. it just looks less graphically impressive.

i dont think u have thought your arguement thru. the next nintendo will no doubt have a even better controller system and better graphics. the next ps and xbox will also prolly have some sort of controller system like the wii. hence the wii has helped push tech forward. it hasnt harmed a thing

Yes I have thought it through. Technology needs to move forwards not backwards. In a world in which everyone is going out buying HD TV's a 480P only console is not what we want.. It shows that the general buying public are not interested in technology and just want to play games. Forget the controller, look at the lack of HD support, the lack of CPU & GFX performance. This has rewritten the rule books for new consoles coming out. Investors that hold the purse strings behind our lovely new consoles will look at this as less development costs = more profit.
