I have the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R and Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C9 (1600MHz)

When I set it to 1600 with the right timings and near enough right volts 1.648v, crysis crashes but if the mem is running at 1333, crysis runs fine?

Ive tried setting the ram volt manually at 1.65, but there isn't a 1.65, it just jumps from 1.640 to 1.660

I had this trouble with my rig and had to bump the voltage to 1.665 could be a bad supply through the motherboard or a weak memory controller thus needed a little extra voltage don't worry the xms3 can easily take 1.75 volts with normal case cooling

Please run memtest86 and make certain that your ram are not the problem. If they are then you can RMA and all should be good there after. If the ram are fine then we can work on how to make it happen. But first run memtest.

Ive already rma it once due to 1 of the sticks being faulty. Plus because its not my system, I think I'll leave it at 1333 where its happy. I will be running memtest later today, I will be gutted if another stick is faulty

Also when I put the mem to 10x it says 1333, but its actually running at 1349. So Is there setting I can change manually that will get it on 1333 without changing the cpu speed?

leave the ram voltage at 1.65v. Asus have something called QPI voltage. Gigabyte call it something else. Turn the QPI upto about 1.35v and you should be able to get 1600 mhz stable.

i recently bought 2000mhz corsair dominator. The xmp settings seem to be wrong i had to tweak them myself. The main culprit was the QPI being so low in my case.

If its paired with an i7 the onboard memory controller is only good for 1066mhz, anything above that is an overclock so its probably not the memory limiting you its the memory controller on the chip itsself.

Yeah Ive just found that out, it says for my i7..........
Memory Type........ 800/1066

So this is prob why crysis crashes when memory is at 1600, but it seems to be fine at 1333. Do you think I should run it at 1066 tho?

Have you adjusted the Uncore frequency to match the 1600 speed?

Uncore should always be set to at least 2x memory speed i.e

MEmory frequency = 1600mhz
Uncore = 3200Mhz

Your QPI voltage should be around the 1.3-1.35 mark.

My memory runs at 2000MHz CAS7 so needs high QPI voltage (1.45v). The faster the memory, the harder it is for the memory controller on the cpu to cope so it needs a little crutch (voltage increase) to stabilise.
