ok ive got my new e2180, gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L and 2gb of geil ram. ive poped it into my case that is only a year old and it wont turn on. Well it turns on sometimes for a quarter of a second and then dies. is this a power problem? i have a basic asus £35 case an psu. any ideas fellas, this is turning into a bit of a nightmare now:mad::mad:

well ive checked out the psu and its only 230 watt, would this cause the pc not to turn on? My prevous build can been seen in my sig and that has no probs at all?

There could be a possability the motherboard could be shorting on the case!
You plugged all the power cable in including the 4 or 8 pin for the CPU.
Try doing a BIOS reset.

What power supply and graphics card are you using.

I wouldn't trust a cheap 230W PSU to power anything, its rails will be weak, its efficiency crap, and most likely wouldn't actually be able to power 190W~ worth of equipment.

Bin that PSU before it bins your components. Why oh why do people scrimp on PSU's :(

because they follow the same idea that applies to a lot of things in life such as with (name product) when the cheap option is as good with the more expensive branded product, they then think that a £15 700W PSU by destroy my pc by being **** (ie qtec)is as good as £70 one by seasonic or corsair (same thing i know) and only learn that money spent on a good PSU IS money well spent when their ***** PSU takes out of their £500+ PC causign them to loose everything since their last backup (assumign they made any).

the number of PCs that i know that use ***** (unbranded) PSUs will age me quicker then anything else i know, especially when they go pop and i have to tell them their owners their pc is most likely dead and needs replacing (thats when i force them to get a good PSU)

Best way is to power the motherboard out of the case on a table with the anti-static
bag under neith, plug minimum components in ie 1 stick of RAM, 1 hard drive and GPU only.

Just want to check you are plugging in the CPU power cables, the 4 or 8 pin!

Well ive tryed taking out the mboard and putting it on the antistatic bag but the cables are not long enough to reach? Is it worth buying a new psu? if so whats the cheapest one that aint too bad? cheers
