Why would Vsync off / Gsync on cause brightness flicker/pulsating?

It happens in one game only, I noticed that if I turn Vsync off in the I get horrible brightness flicker, if I turn Vsync back on again the brightness flickering stops.

I really wanted Vsync off as the game seems to look more smooth whilst I pan across the screen but for some reason it causes this issue.

The gsync brightness flicker/pulsating happens in some other games (usually CSGO or other older games) but I have limited/eliminated it by capping the frame rates to 100-120.

Sorry I dont know much about this other than I just bought a 32" AOC Q3279VWF and managed to get g-sync working. One of the things I read was in order for g-sync to work v-sync had to be on in whatever game you are playing. Dont know if this is true, just saying.

Well thank you for responding :) I do have vsync on in all my other games it is just that in this specific game the game seems to look smoother when freesync is off and gsync is on (despite the dimming). I guess that is just the way things are :D It is strange though how turning Vsync on can stop all of the brightness dimming when theoretically vsync on does nothing when vsync on with gsync on underneath the monitors refresh rate (which it is when this is issue is happening).

Let me know how you got on with that monitor after a while of using it as I may invest in one if it's any good.
