Why do Sony sell so many "different" ps3's. From what I have read they are all the same console (bar the original which you cant get any more) so why not just sell it without a HDD and let you choose yourself?
but with the Xbox releasing a 60GB model, Sony wants to stay ahead with a superior 80GB model
Various reasons. To your main point, it's good that they all have a HDD as this means we don't get into the situation as with the 360 where devs can't produce games under the assumption that every console contains one.Why do Sony sell so many "different" ps3's. being thick here but what does SKU mean?
The reason for the 80gig is most likely due to 80gig hard drives have become cheaper to mass produce than 40gigs so it is now more financially viable for sony to include an 80gig, happens all the time and it's the average consumer that wins.
Besides, what is the big deal? You can always change the HDD yourself, nothing else on the console changed, the price didn't change, no secret extra powerful tech was added.
But then you end up with an extra HDD, Im looking to buy one soon and up a ~250gb HDD in which means I will have a useless disc which I have to pay for doing nothing.
Just seems such a waste.
Buy an external caddy and use it as a portable hard-drive.
