Im just wondering why my hard drive is being showed as a mass storage device? Apparently I can disconnect it, similar to how you would a USB stick or other USB device, see screenshot.

Its a Western Digital SATA 320gb, its been like this since I got the PC over a year ago however I've got tired of the constant blue screens (KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR) and thought i'd investigate this as a possible cause.

The motherboard is a Asus P5NSLI running latest bios.

If anyone can shed any light on this id be very greatful.

And no, I havnt pressed stop yet ;)

If you're asking why it seems that that the drive is plug and play then that's cause in theory SATA drives can be hot pulled.

The error seems to suggest either a memory or CPU error, so get a copy of memtest86 and give the RAM a test.
