I can't get kb/m to work on boot up screen.. i had it working and was sorting through BIOS then turned off the PC and now i can't get past the boot up screen as they don't appear to be working.

The wierd thing is the boot up screen says they are both connected in USB devices and the lights in the kb/m are on yet nothing is happening.. i tried different mice but to no avail... I even tried resetting CMOS incase i accidently changed kb/m setting in BIOS but nope.

help please!

Ok, i solved it.

However now i have a different problem.. how do i install windows 7 from BIOS? there seems to be no option in the Boot menu to change boot up to CD drive, any idea what it would be under?

Using Asrock gen 3 motherboard.

Out of interest how did you solve it?

Also, I haven't used that motherboard before but it should be under a menu called boot/boot order/boot sequence.

Honestly? No idea.. just started working again, very odd.

Yeah i'm in the boot menu in the BIOS but can't see an option for it anywhere. But, on the mobo logo screen before it loads the BIOS it says to press F11 to go to Boot Setup and on doing so it gives two options 'confiqure' or ' reboot' the screen also says 'No boot device detected'. However, whenever i try to click on confiqure i get immediately redirected to BIOS as soon as i move the mouse, so i don't have time to click it.

WTH.. :/

Also, my BIOS is saying SATA 3 is not detected... I have a 64GB SSD connected to the SATA 3 port in the mobo which is firmly in place which i plan to install the OS on the add in a 1TB HHD after..

This ****ing sucks.

Does the windows installer recognize the SSD is connected?

Ensure AHCI is enabled for the SATA port, also use native intel ports rather than ones provided by a third party chip such as Marvell.

Hi there, bare with me as this is my first time so i don't understand all the lingo.

I have no idea how to get to the windows installer, that's my main problem. I have enabled ACHI mode in the BIOS if that's what you mean..? I dont understand.. there are only two places for SATA 3 on the mobo and they're both the same, i tried changing to the other but nothing..

You need to set the DVD drive as first boot device and harddrive second (or you may not have too if its a new install from fresh)

Put the Windows disk in.

Boot the PC and it either loads from the disk on its own or asks you to press a key to boot from the disk.

then let it load the first part of the installer and you can select where to install Windows to if the disk is there?

I don't know how to.. refer to my third post.

It's a fresh install, i've put the disk in but i got straight to BIOS without being asked to press a key..

Change the SATA cable? make sure you have the power in fully, the cables are in the right way?

they are "keyed" so look like a letter "L"

So just to be crystal clear, there is both a power cable and SATA data cable going into the SSD?

Ok, i changed the power cable, booted up and am greeted with 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media and press a key'. I put windows 7 disc in rewriter and pressed a key but it just copys the message everytime i press a key. I tried rebooting and got the same screen..

In the exit screen for the BIOS is a "load defaults"? do this and set the AHCI again.

Save exit and try again.

Set to ACHI mode in BIOS, rebooted and ended up at same screen. Put windows 7 disc in again, pressed a key a message repeats.

BTW my OS is student copy of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit upgrade.

I'm planning on using the double install method, if that helps..
