Wierd Electric problem!

Like I say I have had the exact same problem and the rumbling was definaly my sub. That said im not an electrician so I could be completly off the ball with my guess.

-but seriously, could be heavy trains OR do you live anywhere near a skip hire place or HGV place? Because your road might be on their route?

OR near a supermarket eg tesco, because their deliveries come in at stupid oclock at night, so could be their trucks.

Chances are that your lights are all on a different circuit than your plug sockets so I imagine your stuff should be safe.
