When I highight text in notepad up to font size 12 it highlights it as normal in blue. When I change to 14 and up, if I highlight text it is blue AND orange. i.e. Highighting a whole word will make the letters orange, and the surrounding area normal blue. I cannot get it to go back to normal. This is a fairly fresh install and its doing my head in. Why does it do this? I just want it to highlight text in normal blue all the time.

Word does not do this, or word pad. Just notepad. :( Really frustrating me as I use notepad a lot and want to fix this.

Sure am spicypixels. Can you help me? Really doing my head in. Not sure how long I had the problem though as only just spotted it. Not sure if some additional software has caused it. I run a hd3850 in a core2duo gigabyte ds3r system. Installed fairly up to date drivers if not the latest. guess I could retry that. Got any linkage to the firefox issues? I tried googling but cant find much.

Cheers

I sorted the problem. For future reference the issue was ATI Driver related. With Catalyst driver 7.12 the colour pallette is affected which can affect windows XP. Symptoms of the problem are as I experienced, notepad when highlighting text with larger than 14pt font. Goes orange and other colours. also in mspaint if you use say Red colour font and make it large it turns blue. It can affect other things, namely firefox behaviour and colours.

Fix:

1: Download latest 8.2 Catalyst Driver

Workaround:

1: Use cleartype text in display properties
2: Turn off smoothing of edge of screen fonts in display properties

Cheers spicypixel for the clue.
