ok, this problem involves both my parents, and my pc.
quick overview.
parents pc runs XP pro sp2, this has a printer, and is connected to the home network by a wired connection to a linksys wireless adsl gateway. my computer also runs xp pro sp2 and is connected by wireless connection.
the problem.
i had made an attempt at printing something, but it wasnt working. so, as i am lazy and dont want to be running up and down stairs all day, i installed ultra vnc server onto my parents computer, and put the whole package on to mine. i opened up a viewer window, and connected to my parents computer. this was working fine, but for some unknown reason i wasnt able to get the printer to print from my computer. so i just transferred the files onto my parents computer, and printed directly from their pc.
following this i decided to hook up my printer, as the above method meant turning my parents computer on every time i want to print. i plugged it into the front usb port temporarily. everything printed fine. eventually i tidied my desk and made space for my printer, i now had it plugged into a usb port on a D-link bracket (connected to usb pin out on the mobo). ever since this, every time i turn on my pc it just freezes half way through booting. i have played around a little, and it does boot when the printer is unplugged. weird, as this had never been a problem before.
also, went to get some files off of my parents computer, and theirs too was stopping half way through booting. as the only thing in common between both machines was ultra vnc i decided this must be causing some kind of problem. played around a bit, and got my parents computer to boot. it booted fine, after i unplugged the internal memory card reader (this also connects by usb pin out on the mobo).
i have removed vnc from both machines, and the problem is still occurring. can anybody shed any light as to what has happened/how to fix it.
any assistance is greatly appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to read this.
