Hoping someone can help me with this.

I need to connect a wifi security camera to a neighboring properties wifi connection (son living nextdoor to elderly father) he wants to be able to check in on him time to time while he is out working as he has been having a few health issues lately.

The router is approximately 8 metres away from the camera next door but can not receive a wifi signal.

Ive been thinking a wifi signal booster may work but was wondering if anyone can think of any other solution if that does not work?

Thanks in advance

Boosting is always hit or miss... unclear whether it is the sender (the camera) or the receiver that is struggling. 8m sounds quite far though for reliable WiFi.

The other option is to do a dogleg/out door WiFi access point.

I assume a cable is out of the question?

A cable was my other thought (not sure if he would agree to it but if it is the best option then i reckon he would go for it) im just not to clued up on what i would need to make that work after running a ethernet cable to the other property.

Get a camera that supports PoE instead of WiFi. Get a PoE injector. The injector will have a splitter that gives you a regular household plug and a patch lead that goes into your router.

You can get a long/box of cable and terminate it yourself/ and run it to the camera.

I have 3 on my Mum's house in the exact same way but could reasonable get it to a neighbors house if I wanted.

Will have a look into that thanks.

@xb8browney

should have mentioned it connects fine in his house but when the camera is in his father's house it wont connect.

Does the father have a broadband connection? If so, get an IP camera and use the P2P transport mechanism to view the camera on a smartphone. Is the camera for indoor or outdoor use?

The cheapest Dahua IP camera plugged into a PoE injector into the broadband in the father’s house can be viewed with no other equipment in the Dahua DMSS app. As long as the father has a broadband connection it’ll work fine.
