Hey chaps, just a quick question.
I moved in with the gf a little while back and went from ethernet to wifi at the new place. I brought this shiney item as I wanted something good to work with. Now I have no control over the router (its a rubbish ADSL wireless G thingamy) and this building is old with bad walls etc.
Powerline isnt an option because although I brought the parts the guy is a lazy swearword and despite me mentioning them regularly wont install them (I got shouted at lots last time I went in the room without permission), and its now been a couple of months.

The problem I am having is, my internet drops regularly. Restarting the wifi sometimes fixes it, but often doesnt. I know the fault isnt with the router etc as phones tablets and laptops still work fine on it. All I can fathom then is there is signal interferance as the wifi card is on the rear of the pc with a load of other cabling.
So my question is what do you guys recommend?
I';ve seen things like this which look ideal but can only seam to find them bundled with cards

A wireless card with external aerial and extension will certainly help but I would see about changing wireless channels first to see if that will help. Login to the Router page (I'd be surprised if he's changed the default U/N and P/W) and change the channel. Download some sort of Wi-Fi analyser to determine the best channel.

Yeah its on the default password and I've logged in to it before no problems. I have a nice WiFi analyser app on the phone so that's no problem lies. Will switching the chan cause problems for anyone connected?

If there's only Wireless-G to connect to you don't need anything exotic.

I'd try a basic USB adapter on the end of a USB extension cable so you can get it up into clean air.
