Wifi extender via ethernet

Moving...
I've just moved home and I'm struggling with the WiFi signal in the living room. The router is on the other side of the house and I can't easily move it. The room the router is in has an ethernet cable running to the living room though, so that's fine for my devices which have an ethernet cable, but I've still got a problem with wireless devices.

I want to extend the existing WiFi name, not create a separate network. I believe I should be able to achieve this with a WiFi extender that supports ethernet backhaul. I'm struggling to work out what products would suit my needs though. I thought the TP-link RE450 would do the trick, but by the sound of it it doesn't support ethernet backhaul; the ethernet port on the device is to send the signal onwards rather than 'get' the signal from the router (although I could be wrong).

I don't want to spend much (<£50), as I'm going to have building work done in future and will redo cabling throughout the house, so don't want to drop £££'s on a fancy mesh setup that I might not need in future. Is anyone able to suggest a product that might do the trick?

What is the model of router you are currently using?

You could plug in something like a tp-link AX1500 and set it in access point mode, not sure if you can give it same name as the existing wifi though.

I’d recommend a repurposed router hardwired to your router as a wireless point.
This ^

Some CAT6e cable, RJ45 connectors and boots and a crimper won’t cost very much and will give you a very good WiFi AP where you need it.

I’ve never been a fan of mesh networks as they promise a lot, often cost a lot and don’t work as well as a good old LAN cable to an existing AP.

*yes*, mesh networks are much better than they used to be but they are still prone to issues including interference and so on.

Is there any specific features that I need to look out for to ensure it can do what I need it to? Any suggestions for a cheap+simple option?

It's a Plusnet hub 2. Just the default one they shipped when I joined a couple of years back.

I use hauwei ax3 wifi 6 router
Can set it up as an access point
Provides fast enough wifi to max out my 500Mbs
Though think it's capable of higher speed
Can pick them up for 30 quid
