WiFi on new build...

Woo! and indeed, hoo! TP-LINK AV1000 arrived today. Plugged the one next to the router (after clearing away all the dust...) and proceeded to the attic. Cleared a socket, plugged it in. Just kept flashing. Waited. Kept flashing. Plugged it in a socket on the landing which is probably a different circuit to the main attic and the connection lights came on. Pondered running CAT up the last few stairs (which would not have been popular...) but then decided to try a socket about 6ft from the first one I tried. Lights came on and stayed on! This doesn't surprise me as the electrician who wired the attic was crap! Connected to my PC and unplugged the two WiFi dongles and I'm online! Ran a broadband speed test and get 65Mbps! Compared to the 10 I was getting over the WiFi.

I'm a very happy chap! Just need to sort out the new surge protector and I'm done. Cheers for the help and advice.

Glad it worked out for you!

Ethernet is always the best option, but I think that powerline adapters are always a better option than wifi where possible.

I run a Unifi camera off powerline adapters in a bit of a janky setup going from a shed, through 2 extensions into the house, through to another shed and another extension into my server rack where the other end is picked up and plugs into the switch. The camera has been faultless!
 
That sounds 'interesting'! I was a little bit worried it wouldn't work or at least be little better than the WiFi. But so far it's bloody excellent! I may need to get a multiple point one so I can connect my laptop and move the single point into the dining room for the laptop there...

I had them laying around and was a temp measure until I ran a new cable to the camera. But it works so well it's going to stay like that!

I've never had a bad experience using them though.
