I notice in the manual for the Wii it says that some virtual console games won't be compatible with 480p.. does that mean they just won't work if I hook the Wii up through component or does it just mean they will display at a lower resolution? I don't want to buy a cable if i'm going to get a blank screen on some downloaded games :)

TIA

I believe it means that either the game wont run until you change the display settings or the game wil revert to a supported resolution

on my TV it makes them look awful unsing the component cable. Its only certain formats, i think turbografix are ok, but the others look terrible. it changes them to 576i IIRC

Hmm, that's a bit poor. It's for the missus so I don't really think she'll be capable of switching tv/console modes to play a game :)

On certain game you will get a blank screen. I get a blank screen on Streets of Rage when using compenent and have to plug in the standard cable to get a picture.

From what I understand some HDTV's are problematic with certain titles whilst others have no problems with VC games. It's a poor state of affairs really.

Thanks for the replies, I picked up the cable anyway because the blur-o-vision was annoying me :) It's a bit of a big architectural oversight to not abstract the display mode completely though.. all rather odd.

There's always my DS if she ever fancies a game of Mario Kart :)
