Anyone know if there is any difference between 3rd party Wii component leads and the official one? I would always try to go official, but if there is nothing in it I will get a cheapo make.

Just wanting to avoid the 360 VGA lead scenario :o

I have heard there is a difference. I have a 3rd party one and it is not as good as i was hoping for, but don't want to gamble another £25 on an official one/

I have the Joytech component leads (£10 delivered) and have noticed a marked improvement in picture sharpness and especially colour reproduction. I can't compare it to an official lead but to be honest, i can't imagine there being much difference. Certainly not £8-10 pounds worth of difference.

I bought a cheapo one from the auction site , it's visibly better than my RGB SCART lead and a lot cheaper than the genuine ninty product

They're ok but there is a noticeable difference between them and the official cables. Definitely nowhere near the difference as the crappy 360 3rd party component cables.

Personally the joytech and blaze cables aren't worth getting, stick to the official cables.

Bah, just what I thought would happen; some say 3rd party is no problem and others say go official :p

When I was researching this same question for the xbox the general opinion was that the original MS one was the best quality. I'd hazard a guess that it's the same case here simply because nintendo probably couldn't get away producing crap where as a third party could.

That said Joytech make other good quality products, so their offering might be worth some research.

Well I bought a blaze cable, admittedly I have no idea how well it works until Sunday when my Wii turns up. If someone can show a comparison between the official cable and a blaze then I might consider investing :)

Has anyone compared them though? Same setup both times but using both cables?

It was done many times around the launch of the Wii on avforums as the component cables were scarce. I have personally used the blaze and official cables and found the official one to be sharper with slightly better colour definition.

I tried both mate, didnt notice any difference between the two, they both looked pretty poor on my HDTV tbh, the best picture i got with the wii was on my daughters 14" CRT with the yellow composite lead. :p

Done some research into this. There's no major difference between the cables. On the gamecube the chip that handled progressive scan was actually in the cable so a cheaper cable meant a lesser quality picture. The Wii has this chip inside it, not the cable, so all you should really be looking out for is gold connections.

I've tried both (official and unofficial component cables) and I had a MASSIVE difference. I mean, it was huge, even an untrained eye could spot the differences.

for the sake of a few quid ( what a tenner?) get the official as If you buy the copies and don't like the picture you will always wonder "should I have got offical cables?"
