Just got one of these little machines but im finding the picture isn't that great.
Been looking around and i've seen a few HD cables for sale. Some starting off at around £3-£4 and the OFFICIAL one for £17.99 ... will getting the official one make that much difference to getting a cheap one?

Cheers

A cheap one will be absolutely fine, the Wii is not a HD console anyway so the best resolution you will get out of it is 480p over a component cable. It should look more crisp than the standard Scart connection but don't expect a huge improvement.

Some people prefer the SD connections to the "HD" leads as the resolution is the same but it's sharper on the HD and therefore can look more blocky. Cheap one should do you just fine though.

I got a component cable for mines and it still looks gash.

If you are used to 360/PS3 gaming then it'll always look gash lol

It won't look great as it's not HD, but Component is far sharper. I also find the colours much better. That "may" depend on your TV though.

I have tried Component and Scart. They don't look an awful lot different and other than sharpness. Also, isn't 480p on Component a lower res than PAL on Scart?

Anyway, I have stuck to Component. It's sharper, more colourful and seems much more vibrant. The loss in res doesn't bother me really.

Just remember, it isn't HD and it's going to be a choice of blurry (hey, free AA!) or sharp (with jaggies). But it just isn't going to look as good as 360/PS3.

EDIT: Oh and don't pay £17.99 for a Component cable! Get one for a fiver!

I bought one for £15 and it makes a great difference from the standard cable.

Much clearer, better colours and no "fuzzyness" ... I cannot think of another word for it :o

But yeah, its never going to look like a 360/PS3 as it outputs to 480P

I bought a cheap component cable, it did improve the picture in terms of colour fidelity and sharpness, but this also highlighted how low a resolution the console runs at.
