Wii...is it any better now?

I recently owned a PS3 and sold it last year for the Wii, as a Christmas present for my wife, it was 2nd hand but I got a Wii Fit brand new from a well known toy store for a good price. I have actually used it more than my wife.

I only used PS3 for blu ray and streaming movies. I didn't like any of the games really apart from the driving ones as I prefer playing with a mouse and keyboard as I am a lover of PC games. I cant stand joypads.

This is the first console I have had that I really like. Probably as it doesnt use a joypad. Sony tie up the PS3 too much. Yes you can run linux on it etc but the hoops you have to jump through to get it running.

The Wii to me originally was targetted as a kiddy console but there are some good adult games on there and having a decent lightgun adds a whole new slant to it. It can also be used as a hobbyist device which kind of runs parallel with a PC.

Not dabbled with the motion plus yet although just found I can get a new one for a tenner from a well known catalogue store called smalltrees. I really like the way you can use the Wii Fit for games such as snowboarding etc. The Star Wars games are nearest you can get for waving a real lightsabre around (he he) except my wife beat me at them, oh the shame.

I must admit there is probably 75% dross on the Wii but to me the 25% gems are worth the price of the console.

This is just my opinion I've owned both PS3 and Wii, and the Wii has had the most use, I bought the most games for it and enjoyed it more than a PS3, ergo my own conclusion is to me the Wii is the better. Cheaper and marketed well plus its recently been the best selling console of the "big 3"

Saying all that £55 for Modern Warfare 2 - you must be joking. PC wins the day.

There are some good games on the Wii but you have to really like them to justify buying a Wii. I bought my Wii in 2006. Got bored of it around summer 2007 and put it back in its box. 2 weeks ago For some reason, I just fancy play some easy going games so I set up the Wii again. I am also keeping it for Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid M.

I've also been buying GameCube games for a few quid at car boot sales. :D Got Eternal Darkness for £3. :D Didn't come in its original case and no manuals though. :/

I would say for 1st time buyers there is enough good games to recommend a purchase but for long term owners the wii is going through a dry patch.

/looks over at Wii

Nope, still dusty. Waiting for the next metroid game, looks awesome. If the previous years of the Wii are anything to go by i won't be touching it for another year after i've played that though.

My Wii's been in it's box since I moved house a year and a half ago. The last game I played on it was Mario Galaxy, and it probably won't leave it's box until the next Mario/Metroid/Zelda game is released.

I've been meaning to sell my Wii for ages now. I only bought it for the Girl friend and she never uses it!

The only reason why I'm keeping it now is...

New Super Mario Bros Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2

My bro has one and i've only bought 2 games for it - mario galaxy and metroid prime 3.Both are great games.Oh,and i've bought a few virtual console games for it.Most of which seem more appealing than actual wii games.

Mario Kart Wii >*

I assume you're not including previous iterations of Mario Kart in that *? Mario Kart Wii, whilst fun, is the worst version of Mario Kart ever released. What a terrible selection of tracks!

You're better off with a GameCube than a Wii, IMO.

I Have just played through and almost completed Metroid Prime: Corruption and loved it.. Recently bought loads of games and will be playing them through. I have played a bit of HOTD:Overkill and thought it was a laugh.. Mario Kart is pretty cool but need to get another Controller for a bit of Multi player. Got Zelda and Mario Galaxy but not started them yet.

There are a decent number of good games on the Wii, but not nearly enough to keep a really busy gamer going. I'm perfectly happy with mine, given the limited time I have to play, but if I was still free and single (or at least not father to 2 children!) then I'd have exhausted the games long ago.

It doesn't look like Nintendo have anything decent due for ages. New Super Mario Bros Wii is about the only thing they're releasing soon, and I'm not sure how well that will work. We shall see.

EDIT: Also, on the whole Mario Kart Wii debate... Mario Kart suffers from elastic AI and overpowered weapons at the best of times. The Wii version is particularly bad for that, and you have to be a God to overcome it and consistently do well online.

Double Dash is by far the worst, with MKDS being a clear winner (unless you're one of "those" peopel who prefer the SNES one) :)

Ha! I must be a God then :p MK online is incredibly easy. I gave up playing it a very long time ago because it was boring to win so often. I don't know why it was so easy as I'm not particularly good at it.

Gotta agree on the DS front.

Meh. I found it frustrating to always be coming first then get blue shelled or whatever on the line and wind up coming 6th or something stupid. It's either that or you get spanked by someone who ends up about 20 seconds ahead of everyone else.

Maybe I ought to have another crack at it and see if I can get to grips with it.
