I recently owned a PS3 and sold it last year for the Wii, as a Christmas present for my wife, it was 2nd hand but I got a Wii Fit brand new from a well known toy store for a good price. I have actually used it more than my wife.
I only used PS3 for blu ray and streaming movies. I didn't like any of the games really apart from the driving ones as I prefer playing with a mouse and keyboard as I am a lover of PC games. I cant stand joypads.
This is the first console I have had that I really like. Probably as it doesnt use a joypad. Sony tie up the PS3 too much. Yes you can run linux on it etc but the hoops you have to jump through to get it running.
The Wii to me originally was targetted as a kiddy console but there are some good adult games on there and having a decent lightgun adds a whole new slant to it. It can also be used as a hobbyist device which kind of runs parallel with a PC.
Not dabbled with the motion plus yet although just found I can get a new one for a tenner from a well known catalogue store called smalltrees. I really like the way you can use the Wii Fit for games such as snowboarding etc. The Star Wars games are nearest you can get for waving a real lightsabre around (he he) except my wife beat me at them, oh the shame.
I must admit there is probably 75% dross on the Wii but to me the 25% gems are worth the price of the console.
This is just my opinion I've owned both PS3 and Wii, and the Wii has had the most use, I bought the most games for it and enjoyed it more than a PS3, ergo my own conclusion is to me the Wii is the better. Cheaper and marketed well plus its recently been the best selling console of the "big 3"
Saying all that £55 for Modern Warfare 2 - you must be joking. PC wins the day.
