Wii price confirmed!

Nintendo has revealed its next-generation console, the Wii, will retail in the US for $250 or less, and no more than ¥25,000 ($220/£119/€174) in Japan. It also expects to have shipped more than 6m of the machines by March 2007, the company said today.

I'll definitely be getting one, I wonder which stores will get the pre-order up first???
 
It's been reported at that price on a few sites - but as they all say it's a direct conversion - so don't expect that to be the final pound sterling price. It is a good indicator though - I reckon it definitely means it wont be over £150 - which is what I was expecting.
 
Nintendo made the announcement in Osaka this morning after reporting a 12.5 per cent rise in full-year net profits to ¥98.38bn ($876.7m) but a 19 per cent drop in operating profits. The gain arose from the relative strengths of the Yen and the Dollar during the 12-month period, which ended 31 March 2006. Annual sales were down 1.2 per cent to ¥509.25bn ($4.54bn).

I'd trust an official announcement inline with profit figures being released.
 
'Less than' and 'no more than' doesn't really sound like confirmation talk to me? :/

Still, I wouldnt be surprised for those prices to be set in stone at some point.

As Kreeeee said, its the way of the world.

Something retailing at £120 in Japan, wouldnt have 'just' £30 slapped on top for its release over here. Its generally much more than that.
 
Hehe, can anyone here read japanese and see if there's a press release on the Nintendo site? I'd have thought if this was in with a financial release for the markets it would have to be published somewhere.

Also, the financial announcement has been reported on the bbc business site but no link to the official report or mention of the Wii price. At least they didn't say it was going to be only slightly cheaper than the PS3 :D
 
There does seem to be a lot of news about it on the 'tinterweb, but until I see actual quotes from Perin or Reggie or the gang stating the price, I'm not gonna believe owt !!
 
Hence my search for the release, companies reporting their finances generally have to file them, if the same is true in Japan it should be documented somewhere.

Unlikely. The $129 US Nintendo DS price got translated to £99 over here.

Judging by that conversion rate, the Wii will cost ~£190 inc. VAT. That's still less than half the price of the PS3 though!
