Wiki blackout.

It's nothing to do with the humour - which, incidentally, is virtually never user generated but instead stolen or appropriated from other, funnier forums - but the forums which appear there. The jailbait one was probably the first to get them public notoriety (TV, newspapers, better websites) but there are several more, and arguably worse, ones still in existence. You don't to go looking too far to find something deeply nasty.

So what? These are small subreddits that you are talking about. That are not popular. Which the majority of people never visit. Also reddit does make a lot of content, you are probably just looking in /funny, try the proper rage comic ones for loads of user made content. Reddit make much more content than you think they do.
Reddit is really like loads of forums joined together. Loads of people just spent their time in a couple of subreddits. Judging the whole site off one section is ludicrous.

If your argument is that reddit is a good website because it continues to make rage comics and jailbait and rape sections are okay because not many people use them (which is wrong, btw) then I'm finished with this discussion.

I don't think you understand my point.

I think your point is the same one that sponsors of SOPA were making - that anything that has any possibility of containing or linking to any questionable content is a bad thing. You're definitely going too far here, it's one thing to say that you don't like the format, or the humor. But to insult it's users based on a very small minority?

Aside from the area of political views i think you'll find that the community of OCUK has a lot in common with that of Reddit.

So what would you think if I said that facebook is bad because it has bullying groups and people post racist messages? My point is that you can't judge a large number of people because of a minority.

It's always the majority that takes the punishment for the minority :/

Facebook doesn't accept or condone these type of activities. Reddit actively encourages it. I believe both you and permabanned said they were relatively new to reddit not so long ago. You both seem like seasoned pros now unless I'm thinking of someone else.

Reddit certainly doesn't encourage child pornography... in fact they shut down /r/jailbait because of it. The problem is that if people want to see this content then someone will put it up, and you can either spend a lot of effort chasing them down and systematically removing them, which is a never ending battle, or you can change the system in such a way that would ultimately take more away from the whole thing than it would bring.

And how long have you used Reddit, might i ask? Long enough to form a pretty opinionated view of all of it's members it seems...

Do you have any irrefutable evidence to show that reddit actually encourages the behaviour you are describing?

Been using it for about a year. There are loads of massive facebook groups that are racist, that have existed for many years. Also reddit did shut down jailbait as mentioned.

Like the EDL yet Facebook doesn't remove them despite spreading hate. A picture of bacon and excrement on top of a quran was posted ffs. Facebook is the biggest cesspit.

mumsnet don't have forums encouraging pictures of jailbait (preferably naked) or forums devoted to rape-apologists.

Wouldn't know, never been there. Sad thing is you've probably upped their readership by 100 by that comment tho.

But mumsnet is evil! I hate to think how many relationships and childrens lives have been ruined by mumsnets armchair 'leave him now, take him for what he's got, he looked at pr0n, you dererve better" relationship specialists.

Yes, I know, can't tar everyone with the same brush. I guess there's a good moral in there somewhere.

Thankfully, it doesn't appear immediately so if you're fast with the print screen button, this won't affect you. ;)

Or, you can just use an app on your smart phone, which still works.

The main website just shows an overlay above the content, so if you have Firefox and Fire-bug (or similar), you can just hide the overlay panel(add a display:none style), and show the main panel (remove the display:none style).
